Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is true that, schools are the one who help in building strong base of students for better future. Therefore, in few nations, there is a rule about giving summar holidays for two months. This essay will discuss about the benefits of longer holidays along with the viewpoint of some individuals that schools should provide shorter holidays to learners which I will dicuss in the enumerated paragraphs.

To commence with, there are enormous pros of providing longer holidays to tutees. First and foremost is, they can relax more in summer holidays as it is monotonous task of going school everyday. To explain it, it is very important for their personal development that they should have break from academic burden. Another value of providing more holidays are they can learn new skill in that time. They can utilise this time in opting new skills. As a result, it will sharpen their mind and they can use new skill where needed. Moreover, it is not easy for both children and parents to spend quality time together so that they can enjoy together in holidays. Consequently, it will strong their relationships.

On the other hand, some people arguments that school holidays should be shorter. First reason of this is school should start tours, trips, and other educational visits so that pupils donot feel boardom and they donot demand for longer holidays. Another reason is, more holidays help in diverting their mind from studies. As a consequence, it is very hard for them to be on study track again. Moreover, their are high chances that students will forget many of academic topics. To add more, schools should provide free games period to learners so that they can enjoy study environment and learn tough topics easily.

In conclusion, although more holidays help student to enjoy with family and friends as well as they can use that time in learning new skills, yet it is very hard for them to start study again in school environment because they use to live at home.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both the value of long school holidays and the arguments in favour of shorter ones, as outlined in the prompt. A clear position is maintained throughout the essay. Ideas are presented and supported, such as the benefits of relaxation, skill acquisition, and family bonding in the first body paragraph, alongside counter-arguments regarding academic retention and boredom in the second. However, some ideas remain slightly under-developed or repetitive, such as the suggestions about adding school tours. The overall handling of the prompt corresponds well to a Band 6.0 level of task achievement.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct themes. Cohesive devices are employed to link ideas, such as 'To commence with', 'First and foremost', and 'On the other hand', although some transitions feel a bit mechanical or formulaic. Referencing is occasionally faulty, such as in the sentence 'Another value of providing more holidays are they can learn new skill', where the pronoun agreement fails. Progression is generally maintained throughout, placing this aspect of the writing firmly at a Band 6.0 level.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common words and phrases such as 'monotonous task', 'personal development', and 'academic burden'. However, there are notable word-choice errors and awkward collocations throughout the text, including 'summar holidays' instead of summer holidays, 'tutees' used somewhat unnaturally in this context, 'opting new skills' instead of acquiring, and 'strong their relationships' instead of strengthen. Spelling and word formation mistakes ('dicuss', 'boardom') occur, though they do not seriously impede communication. This vocabulary profile aligns with Band 5.5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some capacity to build multi-clause sentences. However, frequent grammatical errors and punctuation slips are present. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('schools are the one who help', 'Another value... are they can'), missing articles, and awkward phrasing ('some people arguments that'). There are also problems with relative clauses and preposition usage, such as 'devoting their mind from studies'. While communication is generally preserved, the density and frequency of errors restrict the score to a Band 5.5.
