Student answer (Band 6.0)

In present time, many children from primary or secondary pedagogical setting have summer vacation holidays for a few months in many nations. Although long holidays can be beneficial for children, they should be little shorter. Long holidays are crucial because they provide opportunity for younger individuals to gain some valueable experience out side schools. In contrast, holidays can not be too long, as they can lose focus of younger generation towards studies. This situation may causes young juviniles to involve in some unproductive activities.

On the one hand, long holidays are advantageous for younger individuals. In this way, they can gain some valueable experiences like farming and gardening. They may also explore a lot of activities according to their own interest, which may be crucial for their career or health. As long holidays provide a golden opportunity to broaden their horizon. For example, many students learn computing skills, which are ultimately helpful for their future studies and career.

On the other hand, long holidays are sometime bring mundane routine, and many young individuals may be driven towards unproductive habbits. This is due to the fact that every student is different, so not every one is capable to organize their day in a best way. Thats why, prolonged school breaks are waste of time for some students. Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt, discussing the value of long school holidays and the arguments in favour of shorter ones. The writer presents a clear position throughout the essay. Ideas are extended and supported with relevant examples, such as learning computing skills and the negative impacts of excessive social media use. However, some arguments tend to over-generalize and could be further elaborated for a higher band. For instance, the mention of farming and gardening is a good start, but the development remains somewhat brief. Overall, the task is adequately addressed in line with Band 6.5 to 7.0 requirements, and a score of 6.5 is appropriate for the level of idea development.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a logical organizational structure featuring an introduction, two body paragraphs, and an incomplete conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas, such as the advantages in the second paragraph and the disadvantages in the third. Cohesive devices are employed, including transitional markers like 'On the one hand' and 'For example', though referencing is occasionally faulty or mechanical, as seen with 'This situation may causes young juviniles'. The conclusion is abruptly cut off after 'In conclusion,', which detracts from the overall progression. These features place the response firmly within the Band 6 descriptor range.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common lexical items such as 'pedagogical setting', 'unproductive activities', and 'broaden their horizon'. However, there are notable spelling errors and word-choice inaccuracies throughout the text, including 'valueable' instead of valuable, 'out side' instead of outside, 'juviniles' instead of juveniles, and 'habbits' instead of habits. Furthermore, expressions like 'are sometime bring' demonstrate limitations in lexical control and collocation. While communication is not significantly impeded, these frequent errors prevent the lexical score from reaching Band 7.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and conditional structures such as 'Although long holidays can be beneficial for children, they should be little shorter.' and 'This is due to the fact that every student is different, so not every one is capable to organize their day in a best way.' However, there are frequent grammatical and punctuation errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('This situation may causes'), incorrect prepositional usage, and missing articles. The conclusion is also incomplete. While the complex structures show an attempt at grammatical variety, the density of errors keeps the performance at a Band 5.5 level.
