Student answer (Band 5.0)

Schools in many countries remain close in summer for two months and more.Summer holidays are necessary for the students to spend time with there parents, friends and other peoples in there circle. But this much long vacations can also divert the interest of the students from the education.

Long school holidays has a great value because in these long vacations students focus on co-cirruculum activities and they can also travel to the hill station for the refreshment of there mind.

For example:In schools students main focus is only on study if a student has a interest in exploring a new city he cannot do it due to school. But in long vacations he has a lot of time to explore the city.

Every thing has advantages and disadvantages as we are only seeing one side long vacations has good side but it also has a bad side. After the long vacations students feel difficulty in study because of the gap between study and they will not be able to focus with full attention.Short vacations are also be perferenced because of the better study of students.

For example:Student has spend its time in exploring a new city and when he came back to school it is difficult for him to focus again on this studies because his mind is stuck in the city that he explored.

Long vacations and short vacation each has its own importance and every one has its on opinion

on this topic. So if I my consider my self I preffer long vacations more.So it is choice of a school what they think is good for their students.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by discussing both the value of long school holidays and arguments in favour of shorter ones, giving your personal view at the end. However, the ideas remain limited and under-developed, which keeps the response at this level. While you mention that long holidays allow students to focus on co-curricular activities and travel, these points are not fully extended with strong explanations or deep examples. For instance, the example about a student exploring a new city is repetitive and basic, lacking the depth needed to push the score higher. To improve, you should try to elaborate more fully on your main points, providing well-developed explanations and broader examples for both sides of the argument rather than just stating surface-level ideas.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is some organisation in the essay, as you attempt to separate your ideas into different paragraphs covering the value of holidays, examples, disadvantages, and your conclusion. However, there is no clear overall progression of argument, and the connections between ideas feel repetitive and mechanical. For example, transitioning between paragraphs relies heavily on basic phrasing like 'For example:' and 'Every thing has advantages and disadvantages...', which disrupts the flow of the text. Furthermore, referencing is not always clear, such as when pronouns like 'it' or 'he' are used somewhat ambiguously. To achieve a higher score, you need to ensure a logical progression throughout the text by using a wider and more natural variety of cohesive devices, and by organising your paragraphs so that each develops a single, distinct theme clearly.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate to communicate basic points about school holidays. You attempt some less common words and phrases, such as 'co-cirruculum activities', 'refreshment of there mind', and 'divert the interest', but these attempts are marred by noticeable errors in word form, spelling, and collocation. For example, 'co-cirruculum' is misspelled, 'there' is used instead of 'their', and 'perferenced' is used incorrectly. These lexical inaccuracies and spelling slips can cause some difficulty for the reader. To lift your lexical score, you need to expand your range of vocabulary, use more precise words suitable for an academic context, and pay closer attention to standard spelling and word pairings.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The grammatical structures used are somewhat limited, relying heavily on basic sentence forms alongside attempts at complex sentences that are frequently faulty. You demonstrate noticeable errors in grammar throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('Long school holidays has a great value'), incorrect prepositions, and missing articles ('study' instead of 'studies'). Furthermore, punctuation is inconsistent, and there are frequent errors in verb forms, such as 'Student has spend its time'. These frequent errors can cause difficulty for the reader as they navigate your sentences. To improve, you need to increase your repertoire of complex sentence structures while improving your control over basic grammar, tense consistency, and singular/plural agreement.
