Student answer (Band 6.0)
In many countries, primary and secondary schools close for two months or more in the summer holidays. This includes Pakisan as well. I know personally, as I live in Pakistan. In my opinion, it is necessary to give such long school holidays in areas where temperatures reaches about 50 degrees. Many cities of Pakistan face 50 degrees temperature every year and it is expecting to reach above than this in upcoming years.
In this hot and humid weather, students get sick more often because they do not get enough facilities as they should. This includes an air-conditioned environment which most of the schools do not provide to their students. In addition, students and teachers get to have a break from a continuous physical and mental stress. Moreover, the free time at home provides students to work on their personal and holistic development. For example, they get to explore their hobbies and they would not get to become a bookworm solely.
In addition to the personal development, they would get time to spend with their family and colud be able to make their bond strong and healthy with them. Because the hectic school life somehow makes it restricted for students to make time for their parents to sit with them and talk about their personal problems or communicating in general.
Through long school holidays, childen would become safe from severe health conditions like heat strokes. They could be safe and secure in their homes by not going out in hot weather to study and play.
On the other hand, if holidays become prolong, this would effect children in many ways. They would lost track of their academic knowledge. They would be blank and would not score well in exams. They would become distant from the academic enivronment that a school creates.
To keep a track on students performance, it is suggested to close schools for a shorter period because I have seen my class fellows lost their academic performance after going back to school.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both the value of long school holidays and the arguments in favour of shorter ones, such as preventing learning loss. However, some ideas are more fully developed than others. The points regarding extreme weather conditions and health safety in Pakistan are relevant and extended, but the arguments about shorter holidays are somewhat repetitive and lack deeper elaboration. The writer presents a clear position throughout the text, yet the support for shorter holidays tends to rely on personal anecdotes rather than fully generalized arguments. To reach a higher band, all parts of the prompt would need to be equally well-supported with fully developed ideas and broader examples rather than relying on brief mentions of classroom experiences.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear progression of ideas from the value of holidays to the counterarguments regarding shorter breaks. Paragraphing is utilized, grouping related points together effectively. However, cohesion at times feels mechanical or slightly faulty due to repetitive transitional phrases like 'In addition' and 'Moreover'. Referencing is generally clear, but the links between sentences can occasionally feel abrupt, as seen in the transition from family bonding to health conditions. To move higher, the writer needs to use a wider variety of cohesive devices more naturally and ensure smoother logical transitions between paragraphs.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common items such as 'holistic development', 'heat strokes', and 'academic environment'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors that reflect a limited control of collocations and word forms, such as 'Pakisan' instead of Pakistan, 'temperatures reaches', 'expecting to reach above than this', 'colud', 'childen', 'prolong' instead of prolonged, 'effect' instead of affect, and 'lost' instead of lose. These errors do not seriously impede communication, but they prevent the vocabulary score from rising. To improve, the writer should focus on accurate word forms, spelling precision, and natural collocations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing structures like conditional clauses ('if holidays become prolong, this would effect children') and subordinate clauses. There are some grammatical errors in punctuation, verb tenses, and prepositions, such as 'temperatures reaches', 'time to spend with their family and colud be able to', and 'To keep a track on students performance'. Nevertheless, these errors rarely impede communication and the meaning remains clear throughout the response. To achieve a higher band, the writer must produce a greater frequency of error-free complex sentences and demonstrate better control over tense consistency and article usage.
