Student answer (Band 6.0)

In recent years, many countries prefer to provide extented summer vacation to the children as they can spend those holidays by enjoying without any academic stress, meanwhile others prefer to grant only shorter vacation to them. This essay will discuss both the situations with valid reasons.

The main advantage of long-term holidays is that it gives plenty of time to children to enjoy other recreational activities and to glorify their skills such as painting, reading literature or playing their desireable game despite academic pressure. Thus, the students will get considerable time to explore their interests. Another contributing factor is that individuals generally like to travel during vacations. Some may visit to different places or simply to relative's houses. It provide them significant amount of time to spend with their cousins and dear ones which create a strong sense of connectivity and belonging. Therefore, longer Holidays provide an opportunity to explore varieties of pleasurable moments.

On the other hand, few days holidays are bit stressable because students have to complete their vacation 's homework along with enjoying. For instance, after an academic session is over and the next session is starting after few days that will leave considerably little time for children to prepare themselves. Therefore, leads to dissatisfaction among them . However, in some cases this practice become beneficial as a person back on track easily without any longer gap in between. Hence, easy to maintain the productivity and consistency in their studies.

In conclusion, although both have their own merits and demerits as longer vacation give chance to explore the interests and places thoroughly, while Short holidays assists to build consistency quickly without any longer gap.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both the value of long holidays and the arguments for shorter breaks. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and uneven across the paragraphs. For example, while the points regarding recreational activities and travel are introduced, they remain slightly under-developed rather than fully extended with specific examples or deep analysis. The conclusion attempts to summarise the main points, but the overall position remains somewhat generalised throughout the essay, reflecting a partial approach to the task where some aspects are covered more thoroughly than others.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt at logical progression. Information is generally organised into appropriate paragraphs, starting with an introduction, followed by body paragraphs addressing each side of the argument, and a conclusion. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or faulty. The writer relies on basic cohesive devices such as 'Another contributing factor is that', 'Therefore', and 'On the other hand', and referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the phrase 'that will leave considerably little time'. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to structure the response, showing features of both lower and higher bands by maintaining basic organisation while occasionally lacking smooth transitions.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, providing a minimally sufficient range to communicate basic ideas about school holidays. The student attempts to use less common items and descriptive phrases such as 'recreational activities', 'glorify their skills', and 'productivity and consistency', but these attempts are accompanied by noticeable inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'extented' instead of extended, 'desireable' instead of desirable, and 'stressable' instead of stressful. There are also occasional spelling errors and awkward phrasing like 'a person back on track easily', which indicate a limited control of lexical features and affect the overall precision of the writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writer employs a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some attempt at variety through subordinate clauses and conditional structures. However, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation that persist throughout the text. Examples include article and preposition errors such as 'to visit to different places or simply to relative's houses', subject-verb agreement issues like 'It provide them', and fragment sentences such as 'Therefore, leads to dissatisfaction among them.' While these errors rarely impede overall communication entirely, they occur with enough frequency to show limited control over complex grammatical structures and punctuation patterns.
