Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
The response addresses the task only minimally, which is characteristic of the lower bands. Furthermore, the length requirement is NOT met as the response contains 244 words, falling short of the 250-word minimum (note that 13 words copied from the task prompt were not counted). While the writer attempts to discuss both the value of long holidays and arguments for shorter ones, the ideas are presented in a very fragmented and confused manner. The position is difficult to follow, and the arguments are severely under-developed, lacking clear examples or coherent elaboration. To reach a higher level, the writer must ensure the word count exceeds the minimum, directly and fully address all parts of the prompt with well-developed ideas, and maintain a clear, consistent position throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
Information and ideas are not arranged coherently in this response. Although the writer attempts to use basic transition signals like 'Firsrly', 'Secondly', and 'In country decide', the overall logical progression is severely disrupted by confusing sentence structures and abrupt shifts in topic. Paragraphing is attempted, but the internal organization of paragraphs lacks clear progression and topic sentences. Referencing is often unclear, leaving the reader struggling to connect the ideas. To improve coherence and cohesion, the writer needs to group related ideas logically into well-defined paragraphs, ensure a clear overall progression from introduction to conclusion, and use cohesive devices more accurately to link sentences and paragraphs smoothly.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, and frequent errors significantly strain the reader's comprehension. Throughout the text, there are numerous issues with word choice, word form, and spelling, such as 'Nowadyas', 'freashely', 'dicission', 'tecnology', 'countrie', and 'learin'. The writer uses a very limited pool of words, often repeating terms like 'student', 'school', and 'summer holidays' without variation. To move to a higher band, the writer must expand their lexical range, demonstrate better control over word formation and spelling, and incorporate less common vocabulary with greater accuracy and appropriate collocation.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response displays a very limited range of grammatical structures, and errors are frequent throughout, often distorting the intended meaning. Sentences frequently lack basic grammatical integrity, such as subject-verb agreement and correct tense usage, exemplified by phrases like 'population has been gradually increase' and 'student was freashely and the good enviromental things.' Punctuation and article usage are also weak. The writer relies heavily on simple sentence attempts that are frequently faulty, with almost no error-free complex sentences. To achieve a higher score, the writer needs to demonstrate a greater variety of grammatical structures, improve control over basic sentence patterns, verb forms, and articles, and significantly reduce the frequency of grammatical errors.
