Student answer (Band 5.0)

In the summer holidays due to rising temperatures and severe heatwaves frequently force educational authorities to declare summer holidays to protect students health. In many countries primary and secondary schools are closed for two to three months in a year instaed of reducing school timings.

Overall, governments announce summer holidays to protect young generations health. However kids never stay at their home to do the holiday work. Althouigh they plans to spend their holidays at their relatives homes to play with their childerns and friends. This is an negative development for childerns. In summer holidays, the rate of teenagers accidents and fatalities increase every year and the major reason was cycling races in streets, and playing cricket on roads rather then in grounds, or indoor courts.

Ministry of education and governments should need to take neccessary action on summer holidays of schools and shorter the school holidays by reducing peak temperature timings, alternatively to complete two to three months holidays. Childern can study and meet with their friends and classmates in school and play with them in a save environment along study at school.

In this eassy i argue both perspective on short and long summer holidays of primary and secondary schools. I believe that, reducing school timings, and shorter school holidays is effective and efficient development to protect students health and allowing them to spend their time with their friends to explore more. As we know knowledge is a key to success, schools summer holidays should be reduce, so students can learn diversity and make new ideas.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by discussing the value of long holidays and the arguments for shorter ones, such as protecting health and maintaining educational continuity. However, the ideas remain limited and under-developed throughout the essay. For instance, the discussion regarding children's safety and street accidents is introduced abruptly without sufficient expansion or logical linkage to the main educational benefits. The writer attempts to take a position, stating a preference for shorter holidays and reduced timings, but the overall argument lacks clarity and depth due to underdeveloped supporting details and repetitive reasoning. To move closer to higher bands, the writer must ensure that every main point is thoroughly explained with extended supporting arguments and relevant examples rather than general statements.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay displays some organization, with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion, but it lacks a clear overall progression. The transition between ideas feels disjointed, and the logical flow is disrupted by abrupt shifts in topics, such as moving from general safety concerns to ministry actions without smooth signposting. Cohesive devices are used minimally or inaccurately; words like 'however' and 'alternatively' are occasionally misplaced or used mechanically, leading to a repetitive and halting reading experience. Furthermore, paragraphing is attempted, but internal paragraph cohesion suffers because sentences often jump between unrelated concepts like climate, accidents, and educational policy. Achieving a more structured logical progression and more accurate cohesive referencing would significantly improve the flow of the text.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task, featuring frequent errors in word choice, word form, and spelling that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. Examples of inaccurate lexical choices and forms include 'instaed' instead of instead, 'childerns' instead of children, 'althouigh', 'neccessary', 'shorter' used as a verb where shorten is required, and 'eassy'. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'educational authorities' and 'fatalities', but these attempts are undermined by persistent spelling mistakes and awkward collocations like 'safe environment along study'. To reach higher standards, the writer needs to expand their lexical repertoire, pay closer attention to word formation, and ensure greater accuracy in basic spelling and collocation.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response demonstrates a very limited range of structures, relying heavily on simple sentences and faulty attempts at complex sentences. There are frequent grammatical errors in verb forms, tenses, articles, and prepositions within grammatical patterns. Examples include 'students health' missing the possessive apostrophe, 'governments should need to take', 'reduce school timings, and shorter school holidays', and 'in summer holidays, the rate of teenagers accidents... increase'. Many sentences contain structural inaccuracies that hinder readability and require the reader to decode the intended meaning. To improve this area, the writer needs to practice forming accurate complex sentences, maintain consistent subject-verb agreement, and exercise better control over punctuation and basic grammatical rules.
