Student answer (Band 5.5)

It is a practice all over the globe primary and secondary studennts will get long holiday for two months or more specially during summer. It is believed that it helps them to rejovonate, refresh and join back. However it is also argued that small breaks can also benifit school children when it is utilized efficiently.

In most countries schools are not open during summer it is mainly due to an extreme heat where practically students face difficulties commuting and not able to concentrate on lessons. For instance, in some regions like Tamilnadu, temperature goes upto 50 degree which youngsters are suggested to not get exposed to it which automatically understood by the commnity of the state and country have made clear decsion on closing the schools for two months and more. Majority of the states in India have harsh summers which cause various health concerns especially with youger generation.

Though arguements on little holiday over long closing of school are high, parents frequently reports children are more likley to loose grip on subjects and concepts taught at school. It is also difficult to handle this age catgogery kids when they are free which leads to unwanted intersts and increase the tech obsession among them. Since mobile phones and laptops are easily accessiable at present condtion it causes more compliactions in all aspects rather than being advanatge.

I recently had a conversation with my relative about summer camps during summer vacation, if though school is closed parents are trying to keep their children busy by enrolling them for different classes, summer camps which gives the clarity about long summer vacation which makes no point.

In conclusion, considering the different weather condtions in particular regions it is good choice to close the schools for more number of days accordingly, however when the purpose is not served and ending up sending children to different classes is a change in the holiday change the system needs to bring in future which benefits youngsters.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by discussing both the value of long school holidays and the arguments for shorter breaks, though the treatment is only partial and ideas remain somewhat limited and under-developed. For instance, the writer mentions health concerns due to extreme heat and gives a specific example regarding Tamil Nadu, but the explanation lacks depth. Similarly, the points about children losing their grip on subjects or becoming obsessed with technology are introduced without sufficient elaboration or concrete support. The student attempts to maintain a position regarding the weather conditions and the need for structural change, but the overall argument occasionally becomes unclear, particularly when drifting into anecdotes about summer camps. To move higher, the response would need to extend and fully develop all aspects of the prompt with robust explanations and well-supported examples throughout every body paragraph.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

There is some organisation evident in the structure, with an introduction, body paragraphs addressing different viewpoints, and a conclusion, but the response lacks a clear overall progression. Paragraphing is attempted, yet the internal flow of ideas is frequently disrupted. Cohesive devices are used rather mechanically or inadequately, seen in transitions like 'Though arguements on little holiday over long closing of school are high' and 'I recently had a conversation', which make the logical relationship between sentences somewhat disjointed. Referencing is also unclear in places, such as in the concluding paragraph where pronouns and vague phrases like 'a change in the holiday change' blur the intended meaning. To improve coherence, the writer needs to ensure smoother transitions between ideas, tighter logical sequencing, and more precise referencing to guide the reader seamlessly through the arguments.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate to convey basic ideas about school holidays. The writer attempts some less common words and topical terms, such as 'rejovonate', 'commutation', and 'obsession', but these are accompanied by noticeable errors in spelling, word form, and word choice that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. Examples of lexical inaccuracies include 'studennts' (spelling), 'benifit' (spelling), 'catgogery' (spelling), 'accessiable' (spelling), and awkward collocations like 'little holiday' instead of 'shorter breaks'. Furthermore, repetition of words such as 'summer' and 'children' restricts the range. To achieve a higher score, the writer must expand their lexical repertoire, improve spelling accuracy, and demonstrate a more precise control of word choices and collocations appropriate for academic writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The text displays a limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on basic patterns alongside frequent attempts at complex sentences that are often faulty. There are persistent errors in sentence boundaries, punctuation, subject-verb agreement, and articles. For example, the opening sentence 'It is a practice all over the globe primary and secondary studennts will get long holiday' lacks necessary relative pronouns or conjunctions, and phrases like 'temperature goes upto 50 degree which youngsters are suggested to not get exposed to it' exhibit faulty subordination and preposition usage. Frequent grammatical errors cause strain and difficulty for the reader in grasping complex thoughts. To progress, the writer needs to construct error-free complex sentences with accurate punctuation, better management of subordinate clauses, and correct control over verb forms and prepositions.
