Student answer (Band 5.0)
Today, it is happening in many countries that many primary and secondary schools are closed for two months and more in the summer. Some people think that these holidays are not good for studies of children and some people argue the value of these long term holidays. I am going to discuss this topic further and in detail.
First of all I am going to talk about holidays, why are there holidays, whats the main reason of these holidays. I think the primary reason of holidays from school is that the children can rest and enjoy their lives without school. The particular reason of circumstance is whenever schools are open, they kept children very busy. There is no life other than studies for younger ones. They go to school i the morning return in evening then go to tutors for further studies. They does not have time to sit and eat with their parents.
There are also other things they cant do like they do not have to play any games physically like cricket, football and other games. That's why their health are not good and we all know a famous line a sound body has sound mind. That's why they are not good in their studies too.
Now lastly I will talk about two months holidays. I think they are not too much because in Asain countries summer is too long and there is too much heat outside even people will die with this amount of heat so I think two month holidays are not too much because our student health is our first priority.
According to my point of view, holidays are must for the children to enjoy their lives, so they can make new friends they can go to some beautiful places with their parents.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
The response addresses the task only partially, as the two prompts regarding the value of long school holidays and the arguments for shorter ones are somewhat conflated and handled with limited, under-developed ideas. While the writer attempts to present a position concerning children's rest and extreme weather in regions like Asian countries, the ideas remain repetitive and lack full extension. For instance, the argument about heat is introduced briefly without connecting it deeply to educational outcomes or school scheduling. To move to a higher level, the writer needs to clearly separate the distinct advantages of both long and short holidays, supporting each point with fully elaborated explanations and relevant examples.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is some basic organisation with attempts at paragraphing, but the response lacks a clear overall progression. The introduction relies heavily on meta-language such as 'I am going to discuss this topic further and in detail', which detracts from natural flow. Cohesive devices are inadequate or repetitive, with simple connectors like 'First of all', 'There are also other things', and 'Now lastly' overused to link thoughts. Furthermore, referencing is sometimes unclear, making the transitions between ideas mechanical. To improve coherence, the writer should employ a wider and more sophisticated range of cohesive ties and ensure that each paragraph builds logically upon the previous one without unnecessary repetition.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task. The writer attempts some less common words and phrases, such as 'primary reason' and 'first priority', but relies heavily on basic, repetitive terms like 'things', 'games', and 'studies'. There are noticeable lexical errors and awkward word choices, such as 'study of children', 'younger ones', and 'student health', which reflect a restricted range. Spelling and word formation are generally clear enough not to impede overall communication, but they still cause some difficulty for the reader. To achieve a higher score, the writer must expand their vocabulary range and demonstrate better control over word choice and collocation.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response displays a limited range of structures, with attempts at complex sentences frequently resulting in faulty phrasing and grammatical errors. There are persistent errors in verb forms, subject-verb agreement, and articles, such as 'There is no life other than studies for younger ones', 'They does not have time', 'their health are not good', and 'two months holidays'. Punctuation is also basic, with run-on sentences and missed commas affecting readability. These frequent errors cause some difficulty for the reader. To progress, the writer needs to increase sentence variety by correctly incorporating complex structures and improving basic grammatical accuracy.
