Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both the value of long school holidays and the arguments in favour of shorter ones, maintaining a clear position throughout. However, some ideas are more fully developed than others, which places it at this level. For instance, the benefits of long holidays are supported with clear examples like coding and swimming, but the points on shorter holidays are somewhat repetitive and lack deeper extension, particularly regarding academic continuity. To reach a higher level, all aspects of the prompt need equal depth of explanation and thorough support without relying on repetitive arguments.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear logical progression from introduction to body paragraphs and a concluding stance. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct points, such as the benefits versus the drawbacks of long holidays. Cohesive devices are employed, but some linking is a bit mechanical or faulty, such as "On the other hand, their are severals strong argument" and the phrasing at the start of paragraphs. To achieve the next level, referencing could be managed more smoothly, and cohesive devices need to be integrated with greater flexibility and precision throughout the text.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The writer demonstrates an adequate vocabulary range for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as "academic stress," "recharge their mind," and "continuity in studies." However, there are noticeable spelling, word form, and word choice errors that appear throughout the response. Examples include "an large holidays," "benfits," "hobbis," "developed" instead of develop, "loss" instead of lose, "forgot" instead of forget, "durung," "lathargic," and "balance approach." While these errors do not completely impede communication, they restrict the score because they show limited control over word formation and collocation. To improve, the student needs to use vocabulary more accurately and refine spelling and grammatical forms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting structures like conditional and relative clauses. There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, but they rarely impede communication. Examples of grammatical lapses include subject-verb agreement issues ("their are severals strong argument"), article misuse ("an large holidays," "the first week"), preposition errors ("in favour of reduce"), and awkward phrase structures ("may cause inactiveness to the children"). To move to a higher band, the writer must produce more frequent error-free sentences when attempting complex structures and maintain better control over basic grammatical agreements and article usage.
