Student answer (Band 5.0)

In many countries, primary and secondary schools close for two months or more in the summer holidays. This essay covers the importance of long school holidays and the arguments in favour of shorter school holidays.

In most of the countries,Schools are closed in December,June,July and even till august when government announced more holidays due to the hot weather.Heat stroke is one of the reason for closing schools for more than two months.Although, teachers give homework and tasks to their students to complete at their home during these holidays. These tasks and activities include reading, writing and learning a lesson for each day of their summer vacation. It helps students to enhance their writing and reading skills during that period. So it is beneficial for students to also take break from their daily school going routine and practice self at home.

While,Some people think that students might get lazy and stubborn after getting two months holidays. They donot practice by self and impact their education. When holidays get prolonged then students learning capacity is affected due to increased relaxation and no strict attention to their education. They started to focus on other things like playing outdoor games, sleeping late night ,watching cartoons and using mobile phones more than before.Students obey teachers more than parents. So they require full attention for their learning and education. One example includes the history of corona virus, when schools were closed for many months and classes were held online. So,it impacted the quality of education.Students become careless and donot focus on their studies.

Holidays play a important role in Education and the life of a students. To some extent,it have advantages but more disadvantages in case of longer holidays

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You address both questions: you explain that long breaks can protect pupils from extreme heat and give them time for homework and rest, then present concerns that extended holidays may reduce study habits and learning. However, these points are brief and often asserted rather than explained; for example, the claim that students “obey teachers more than parents” is not clearly connected to the case for shorter holidays. Your conclusion says holidays have “more disadvantages” but does not clearly weigh the value of long breaks against the arguments for shorter ones. The response is also five words below the 250-word minimum, and 25 words copied from the task prompt were not counted. Develop each side with clearer reasoning and a relevant example of how shorter breaks could support learning.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a basic overall structure: an introduction, one paragraph about the benefits of long holidays, one about drawbacks, and a brief conclusion. This helps the reader identify the two sides of the discussion. However, progression within paragraphs is uneven, and several ideas are joined mechanically or unclearly. For instance, “Although, teachers give homework” does not form a complete contrast with the preceding sentence, while “While, Some people think” is an awkward transition into the second viewpoint. The conclusion is too brief to bring the discussion together. Use clear topic sentences, connect each reason to its consequence, and choose linking expressions that accurately show contrast or cause and effect.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “heat stroke,” “learning capacity,” “education,” and “online.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations sound unnatural, which sometimes makes the meaning less precise. Examples include “practice self at home,” “prolonged” holidays used without a clear reference, and “strict attention to their education.” There are also noticeable spelling and form issues, such as “donot” and “till august.” Aim for more precise phrases and check standard spelling and word forms. For example, describe pupils as “studying independently at home” and say that long breaks may “disrupt learning continuity.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt some complex sentences, such as “Although, teachers give homework and tasks to their students to complete at their home,” and use cause-and-effect structures to explain how long breaks may affect learning. However, the range is limited, and errors occur frequently enough to make some sentences difficult to follow. Examples include “it have advantages,” “the life of a students,” and “They started to focus,” where agreement, articles, or tense are not controlled. Some attempted clauses are incomplete or incorrectly punctuated, including “Although” at the start of a sentence and “While, Some people think.” Practise building accurate simple sentences first, then combine them with correctly formed subordinate clauses; also check sentence boundaries, capitalisation, and punctuation.
