Student answer (Band 6.0)

In several countries, primary and secondary schools offer the summer break of two months or more . This long break from schools has significant benefits because it gives them mind relaxation and more time to spend with family .However some people argue that these holidays should be shorter as it distract the tutees from studies.

One major advantage of long schools holidays is that spending more time with family is possible due to long break from academic routine which strenghthen their bond with their siblings and parents. Moreover , they can arrange different kind of tours with family and also stay at their relatives which helps them to stay in touch with their relatives and gives them a sense of belonging.Furthermore, it helps them to relax from the stressing and monotonous routine of school life and they can live their life according to their own will , play different kind of games with their friends and take part in different activities and hobbies.Due to which they can enjoy stress free life which acts as a medicine for their mental health.

The propponents of long summer break argue that school holidays should be shorter due to many reasons. One significant issue of long break is distracting the learners from studies .According to them, the students get involved in different fun activities in such a long break due to which they start showing carelessness in studies and more involvement in other extra curricular activities . In addition , their educational performance is effected badly because when schools open after a long break, instead of spending time in study, they still get attracted towards enjoyment and games. For instance ,in Pakistan students get long time to enjoy ,so they just get used to it due to which they are less interested in education.

In conclusion, long holidays are good for students mental health but at the same time some individuals argue that it has bad impact on their educational performance.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both questions: the first body paragraph explains benefits such as family time, maintaining relationships with relatives, and relaxation, while the second presents the case for shorter holidays through possible loss of study habits and weaker performance. These are relevant ideas, and the Pakistan example gives the discussion some context. However, the benefits are developed more fully than the arguments for shorter breaks, which largely repeat the idea that students become distracted. The conclusion also summarises the contrast without clarifying which arguments you consider most persuasive. To strengthen the response, explain the shorter-holiday case further—for example, how a shorter break could help students retain knowledge or support parents’ work schedules—and develop the example with a clearer link to the claim.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two sides, and a conclusion. This makes the main progression easy to follow. You also use linking expressions such as “Moreover,” “Furthermore,” and “In addition” to connect supporting points. At times, however, these links feel mechanical, and several ideas are joined into long sentences, particularly in the paragraph about family activities and relaxation. The phrase “Due to which” does not connect smoothly to the preceding sentence, and the reference in “they start showing carelessness” could be more precise. Use clearer sentence boundaries and vary how you signal cause, contrast, and examples so that cohesion feels more natural.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of vocabulary, including “academic routine,” “sense of belonging,” “monotonous,” and “educational performance,” which helps express the topic. There are also attempts to use less common language, but some choices or combinations are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “mind relaxation,” “long schools holidays,” and “live their life according to their own will.” Spelling errors, including “strenghthen,” “propponents,” and “effected,” also reduce accuracy. These issues do not prevent the reader from understanding your main points, but they limit precision and naturalness. Focus on learning common word partnerships and checking spelling; for example, use “mental relaxation,” “long school holidays,” and “their academic performance is affected.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses of reason and time, as in “because when schools open after a long break…” This gives the response some structural variety, and the main meaning is generally clear. Some grammatical errors remain, particularly with subject–verb agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries. For example, “these holidays should be shorter as it distract” needs a plural subject and matching verb, while “the students get involved… due to which they start” is an awkwardly constructed clause. Several sentences run together or use commas where a full stop would make the structure clearer. Review agreement and article use, and divide long sentences into shorter, controlled units while continuing to practise complex clauses.
