Student answer (Band 6.0)

In many countries there are long holidays in the summer season one of the main reason for these holidays is weather conditions which could have harsh impact on primary and secondary school children. Due to hot weather they could have heat strocks, fever and other health related issues. South Asia is the primary example for this reason. In Pakistan,India and Bangladesh during summer season the temperature could rise upto 50 degrees and school childrens are not capable of bearing extreme heat.

long summer holidays bring good values to the family and for the child itself. In summer holidays childrens gets a chance to spend time with their family for example during summer holidays they can go to different places for tourism and can enjoy with their family. In summer holidays they also gets opportunity to play with their friends which will increase the socializing capability of the child, moreover they could learn different sporting skills in the playground.

Contrary to that there is an opposite argument which is against the long holidays. Most of them argues that long holidays could disturb the schedule of the school childrens for example if they do not go to school for long time their wakeup schedule will be disturb. Furthermore long holidays will make them lazy for schools. Due to much time of leisure they will not want to go back to school which will consequently results in leaving school education.

In my view I would say school holidays for shorter period is good for school childrens which will make them to feel connected to school and they can also enjoy with their family during that shorter period of holidays.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both questions and give a clear view in favour of shorter holidays. The value of long breaks is supported with relevant points about avoiding extreme heat, spending time with family, and developing social and sporting skills; the examples from South Asia make the weather argument more specific. You also explain the case for shorter breaks through disrupted routines and reduced motivation to return to school. However, these arguments are not equally developed: the risks of long holidays are asserted rather than supported with a concrete example, and the final opinion is brief. To strengthen the response, explain how shorter breaks could preserve routine while still allowing rest, and develop one or two arguments with clearer cause-and-effect reasoning.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a coherent overall arrangement: it introduces a reason for summer closures, develops benefits of long holidays, presents the opposing case, and ends with your position. Paragraphing helps distinguish these stages, and links such as “Furthermore” and “Contrary to that” guide the reader. This meets the lower-band expectation of an organised response and shows some features of stronger progression. However, connections can feel mechanical or imprecise: “Contrary to that” does not clearly identify which earlier point is being contrasted, while “moreover” joins ideas that could be linked more smoothly. The opening also runs several ideas together without clear punctuation. Use more precise transitions and make each paragraph’s central point explicit before adding examples.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough topic vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “extreme heat,” “socializing capability,” “sporting skills,” and “leisure.” There are also attempts at more specific language, such as “health related issues” and “disturb the schedule.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or forms are noticeably inaccurate or unnatural, which keeps expression from being consistently precise. Examples include “heat strocks,” “school childrens,” “bring good values,” and “wakeup schedule.” Repetition of “summer holidays” and “child” also limits flexibility. Build a more accurate set of collocations for education and routines, and check spelling and plural forms so that your intended meaning is immediately clear.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more extended sentence forms, including a conditional example beginning “if they do not go to school” and a result clause introduced by “which will consequently.” The main ideas remain understandable, but grammatical control is uneven, and errors occur across agreement, verb forms, articles, and sentence boundaries. For example, “childrens gets” and “they also gets” have subject–verb agreement problems, while “their wakeup schedule will be disturb” has an incorrect verb form. The opening is a run-on sentence, and capitalisation and punctuation are inconsistent. Practise checking each sentence for a clear subject and finite verb, then review agreement and verb forms; accurate control of these basics will make your longer sentences easier to follow.
