Student answer (Band 4.0)

In some countries, primary and secondary schools close for two months or more in the summer holidays. The holidays held for two are more than two weeks are good decision. These holidays held due to hot summer. In these days summer become too hot that are not beneficial for students. These days are harmful for them. In these days students cause many deceases. In these days students go to there relatives homes to enjoy there holidays. Among the students these holidays are gift of God for them. They already plans what the they do in these days. They are mentally prepared for holidays. They do not know about the cause of these holidays. They enjoy these days as well as possible. In my opinion holidays are good for students health. Because summer is very hot. Students never survive 12 hour in the school. If they do this they will face many deceases like cough, sneeze and many other deceases. These deceases harmful for students, If they sick, they could not studied in good means. The main purpose of these holidays is to save students from diabetics. Parents should keep them in homes and prepare them for the next examination.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5

You give a clear view that long summer holidays benefit students, especially by protecting them from extreme heat and allowing them to visit relatives and enjoy a break. However, the task asks both about the value of long holidays and arguments for shorter holidays; the second part is not addressed, and the benefits are mostly asserted rather than explained with relevant examples. The claim that holidays prevent “diabetics” is unclear and does not support the argument as written. The response also contains 184 words, so it is 66 words below the required minimum; this limits the opportunity to develop both sides. To improve, explain at least one case for shorter breaks, such as maintaining learning routines or reducing childcare difficulties, and support each point.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5

The response stays mainly focused on summer holidays and presents a recognisable sequence: it introduces the topic, gives reasons for a long break, and states your opinion. Some links between ideas are understandable, such as the connection between hot weather and student health. However, there is no paragraphing, and repeated openings such as “In these days” make the progression feel list-like rather than developed. Several points also repeat the same idea about heat and illness, while the argument for shorter holidays is absent. Use separate paragraphs for the value of long holidays and the case for shorter ones, and connect each reason to its explanation with clear referencing and varied linking phrases.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate basic ideas, including “summer holidays,” “students,” “health,” and “examination.” There are also attempts to express more specific points, such as “mentally prepared” and “the main purpose.” However, vocabulary is repetitive and several choices make the meaning unclear or unnatural: “holidays held for two are more than two weeks,” “students cause many deceases,” and “save students from diabetics.” Spelling errors such as “deceases” also affect clarity. Build a more precise range for discussing education and seasonal breaks, and check collocations and word forms. For example, describe students as being “at risk of illness” rather than saying they “cause” diseases.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0

You attempt a few different sentence forms, including a reason clause beginning “Because summer is very hot” and a conditional sentence, “If they do this they will face…”. Most sentences, however, are simple, and errors in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction are frequent enough to make parts difficult to follow. Examples include “The holidays held for two are more than two weeks are good decision,” “They already plans,” and “they could not studied.” The sentence beginning “Because summer is very hot” is also a fragment, and punctuation around “These deceases harmful for students, If they sick” is faulty. Practise complete sentences and consistent subject–verb and verb-form patterns before adding more complex clauses.
