Student answer (Band 6.0)
During summer holidays almost all primary and secondary schools close for two or more months in most countries. Long school vacations are granted to students so they can spend time with their families, go on trips or take short summer camping classes . However, it is often argued in favour of shorter school vacations. This essay would discuss both perspectives in detail.
On one hand, primary and secondary schools grant long vacations to learners for many resaons. One of the main resaon is to protect the students from heat strokes in summers so the studenst can spend significant time with their families instead of going outside in summers. The families usually donot get much time to take the kids to trip because of hectic school curriculum. In this way, parents can organize long family trips outside city towards northern cool areas or another country. Another main reason is long school holidays help students to take part in short summer camping ourses organized by many institutes and organizations to teach learners basic adaptive and technical skills.
However, on the other hand, many people emphasize on short school holidays. This is because most parents have busy employment schedules so they are not able to pay more attention to their kids. Many students get bored by having no friends in their viccinity so they miss their classmates. Also many kids get overjoyed in their homes and donot pay attention to their studies after vacations. This lead to a big trouble to teachers and parents to keep the kid back to study track.
In conclusion, the value of long school vacations is much prominent with reasons that they are granted to students so they can spend time with their families, go on trips or take short summer camping classes . However, most families are in favour of shorter school vacations so the students donot get annoyed by studies after spending longer time at home. Therefore, schools should grant shorter vacations with proper study plans and projects for kids so they donot get bored and keep themselves engaged in exciting activities.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address both parts of the question: you explain the value of long holidays through family time, trips and summer courses, then give reasons for shorter breaks, including parents’ work schedules, students missing friends and difficulty returning to study. Your conclusion also gives a recommendation. These ideas are relevant, but some are more fully explained than others. The family-trip point is supported with a concrete example of travelling to cooler northern areas, while the benefits of camping courses and the claim that students become bored or lose focus receive less explanation. To strengthen the response, clarify how each reason affects students or families and support the shorter-holiday arguments with a specific example. Make the final position more consistent: the essay presents benefits on both sides, but the recommendation for shorter holidays appears mainly at the end.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two perspectives, and a conclusion. Signposting such as “On one hand,” “However, on the other hand,” and “In conclusion” makes the direction easy to follow, and the main ideas generally progress logically within each paragraph. This meets the lower-band expectations and shows some features of stronger organisation. However, the linking phrases are somewhat formulaic, and the conclusion repeats much of the introduction rather than synthesising the discussion. Some references are also unclear, as in “This lead to a big trouble,” where the reader must infer exactly which preceding problems are meant. Use more varied, precise links between cause and effect, and make each paragraph build towards the final recommendation.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough vocabulary to discuss the topic and attempt some less common expressions, including “hectic school curriculum,” “adaptive and technical skills,” and “employment schedules.” The meaning is usually understandable, but inaccurate word choice, collocation and spelling reduce precision. For example, “heat strokes in summers” and “get overjoyed in their homes” do not express the intended ideas naturally; “summer camping ourses” also contains a spelling error. There is repetition of “long school vacations,” “students” and “families,” which limits flexibility. Aim to learn common word partnerships and check spelling carefully. More precise alternatives for the ideas of excessive heat, boredom and returning to study would make the argument clearer and more natural.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses with “so,” “because” and “instead of,” and most sentences communicate the intended meaning. Some grammatical errors remain, particularly with subject–verb agreement, verb forms, articles and sentence boundaries. For instance, “This lead to a big trouble” should be “This leads to a major problem,” while “long school holidays help students” needs a clearer grammatical connection to the surrounding sentence. The opening also has a run-on feel where the two perspectives are joined without adequate punctuation. Review agreement and article use, and punctuate compound sentences carefully. Building on your existing complex structures while checking each sentence for a clear subject and verb would improve accuracy.
