Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0
The response makes a relevant start by describing Lahore’s extreme summer heat and the difficulty families may face paying for air conditioning. However, it does not answer both questions: it gives no clear account of the value of long holidays and does not explain arguments for shorter holidays. The final point about the school’s reason for giving a vacation is unfinished, so its relevance and meaning are unclear. The response also falls substantially short of the required 250 words, leaving the ideas very limited and unsupported. To improve, address each question directly, explain the benefits and drawbacks, and develop each point with a reason or example.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5
There is a basic sequence of related points: the writer introduces long vacations, describes the heat, and then mentions limited resources and school fees. This gives the reader some sense of the topic. However, the response is too brief to establish a clear overall progression or develop separate arguments, and there are no paragraph breaks to distinguish the different points. Connections between ideas are also unclear in places, particularly the shift from families’ inability to afford air conditioning to the school’s reason for providing a vacation. Organise the response into an introduction, paragraphs addressing each question, and a conclusion, using clear links to show how each point supports the argument.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The response uses some relevant vocabulary, including “unbearable,” “heat stroke,” “resources,” and “extra charges,” which helps communicate the local context. However, the range is limited, and several spelling or word-choice errors reduce clarity, such as “vacarions,” “condtioners,” and “enlisted in developing country.” Some phrases are also unnatural, including “there is short of resources” and “come out of the houses.” Aim for accurate, natural collocations and a wider range of terms for discussing education and holidays, such as “school facilities,” “learning continuity,” and “family expenses.” Proofreading spelling and choosing precise expressions would make the ideas easier to follow.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response attempts both simple statements and a reason clause, as in “where hot weather makes it unbearable to come out of the houses.” However, sentence structures are mostly simple, and errors in agreement, articles, and sentence formation are evident. For example, “Almost all schools in my country gives” should use a plural verb, while “Few even gets heat stroke” has an unclear subject and incorrect agreement. The final sentence, “So my school air condtioners,” is incomplete and does not express a full grammatical idea. Practise building complete sentences with clear subjects and verbs, and check agreement and articles. Using a few accurate complex sentences to explain causes and consequences would also broaden the range.
