Student answer (Band 6.0)

Summer holidays in primary and secondary schools lasts for more than two months in different countries.

Due to extreme temperatures in summer government has instructed school authorities for two months of summer vacations to protect kids from heat wave and provide them good time to be spent with family and friends. It's also moonsoon season in different countries so having off from school is a good option. I remeber from my childhood summer vacation means visting to my maternal grandmother place where all my cousins, uncles and aunts were together and we had spent good quality time with them. Its one of the core memories i had from my early years.

Some people debate for shorter period of holidays as they beileve such long holidays disturbed the routine of students and they have to consider summer school/camp options for thier children to utilize this time effectively. But, this option is not suitable for everyone as its fees is quite high and schools are also chaging fee for these holidays. So it become more difficult to manage for them, that's why parents consider shorter time for vacations.

In my opinion two months off from school is better option if we plan this time wisely as kids will be busy in rest of the 10 months. So we can plan some indoor learning activities, play dates, family picnic and much more. As kids will grow older in few years then they will cherish this time and it will never come back. Authroities should also provide some economical summer school options so people who are willing for it can consider this.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address both questions and maintain a clear preference for two-month holidays, while also acknowledging the case for shorter breaks. The value of long holidays is supported with relevant reasons—avoiding extreme heat, spending time with family, and creating childhood memories—and your personal example makes this discussion engaging. You also explain that shorter holidays may help preserve students’ routines and reduce reliance on costly camps. This covers the task well, but the two sides are not equally developed: the arguments for shorter holidays are brief, and the point about monsoon conditions is introduced without explaining how it supports a long break. To strengthen the response, explain the educational or practical effects of shorter breaks more fully and connect each example directly to the question.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a coherent overall arrangement: it introduces the topic, discusses the benefits of long holidays, presents arguments for shorter ones, and ends with your own view and a suggestion. Paragraphing helps distinguish these stages, and linking expressions such as “But” and “In my opinion” make the direction of the argument clear. However, some connections are mechanical or unclear. For example, “It’s also moonsoon season” shifts to a new reason without showing how it relates to the preceding point, while “So it become more difficult to manage for them” leaves the reference to “them” somewhat vague. The final paragraph also combines your position, proposed activities, and a policy recommendation quite quickly. Use clearer links between reasons and consequences, and organise each paragraph around one main point.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate your ideas, including “extreme temperatures,” “summer school/camp,” “routine,” and “economical.” The personal account also gives the response a natural, specific voice. However, word choice and spelling errors are noticeable and sometimes make the reader pause: “moon soon” is misspelled as “moonsoon,” “chaging” appears for “charging,” and “good time to be spent” is an awkward expression. Some phrases are also imprecise, such as “shorter period of holidays” and “utilize this time effectively.” Aim for more accurate collocations and check spelling carefully. For instance, you could describe holidays as “extended summer breaks,” say that camps “provide structured activities,” and refer to “affordable programmes” rather than “economical options.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including clauses beginning “Due to” and “as,” and most of your meaning remains understandable. There are, however, some errors in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction. For example, “Summer holidays … lasts” should use a plural verb, and “such long holidays disturbed the routine” needs a form such as “disrupt” to express a general belief. In “its fees is quite high,” the subject and verb do not agree; “their fees are” would be more accurate. The sentence beginning “As kids will grow older” is also awkwardly constructed and does not clearly express the intended time relationship. Practise checking subject–verb agreement and tense, and revise long sentences so that each clause has a clear grammatical connection.
