Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is widely argued that primary and secondary schools should be closed for two months or more in many countries during the summer holidays. Although longer school holidays provide more time to individuals to learn extra skills and spend the quality time with family, parents argue that students remain connect with the studies and work-life balance become better in shorter school holidays.

On the one hand, longer school holidays provide an opportunities to teenagers to learn their skills whom they are interested, and which they can not learn it during school. They can not participate in other activities because of their busy hectiic schedule of schools. These longer vacations have enough time to pursue their interest. For example, an individual can easily take classes of piano, and also participate in the sports club. In addition, they may spend a time with family by visiting different places, engage in activities such as, playing chess together, share laugh together.

On the other hand, mostly parents are in favour of shorter school holidays because they believe that short span of vacations remain connect the students with studies. They will not forget the main topics and make easy for them to recall everything after joining the school. For example, children may need to revise things after a some time because they tend to forget things easily. Further more, it also maintain a balance between parents work and life because it may be challenging for them to handle their children during longer vacations. They also have their other activities such as business meetings or social meetings.

In conlusion, individuals can engage in other skills and have enough time to spend with their families during the longer vacations but mostly parents are in favour of shorter school holidays because of balance between work and life and students will be in touch with the studies.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both questions: the first body paragraph explains how longer holidays allow students to pursue interests such as piano and sport and spend time with family, while the second gives parents’ reasons for preferring shorter breaks, including continuity in learning and childcare demands. Your conclusion also restates this contrast. These are relevant ideas, but some are less fully developed than others. The benefits of family time are illustrated with activities, whereas the point about students forgetting topics is asserted rather than explained, and the work–life argument could clarify how shorter breaks help parents manage care. The opening also frames the issue as whether schools should close, rather than directly introducing the value of long holidays and the case for shorter ones. Develop each reason with a clearer explanation or example to make the response more complete and precise.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two sides, and a conclusion. The contrast is easy to follow, and signposts such as “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” help guide the reader. This logical organisation is a strength. To make the progression more fluent, connect ideas within paragraphs more explicitly: the move from students’ interests to family activities in the first body paragraph, for instance, could be signalled as a second benefit. Some linking phrases feel mechanical, and references such as “it” in “it also maintain a balance” are not fully clear. Use a wider range of natural transitions and make pronoun references explicit; this would build on the coherent structure already present.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main points, including “pursue their interest,” “recall,” “longer vacations,” and “work and life.” There are also attempts to express ideas beyond basic statements, such as describing parents’ difficulty managing children during holidays. However, word choice and collocation are often inaccurate or unnatural, which limits precision: “remain connect with the studies,” “spend the quality time,” and “busy hectiic schedule” do not sound idiomatic. Spelling errors such as “conlusion” and “Further more” also affect the impression of control. Build a bank of natural phrases for education and family responsibilities, and check spelling and word forms during revision. More accurate collocations would make your ideas clearer without requiring more complex vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a concession in the introduction (“Although longer school holidays…”) and clauses beginning with “because” and “which.” This gives the response some structural variety, and the main meaning is generally understandable. However, some errors in agreement, verb forms, articles, and sentence construction remain. For example, “longer school holidays provide an opportunities” has a number-agreement problem, while “it also maintain” needs a matching verb form. In “students remain connect,” the verb construction is incomplete, and “children may need to revise things after a some time” contains an article error. Review subject–verb agreement and verb patterns, then proofread articles and sentence boundaries. More consistently accurate complex sentences would strengthen the range you already attempt.
