Student answer (Band 6.0)

Primary and secondary schools, in this contemporary educational landscape, offer summer holidays for more than two months in most of the countries of the world. While some people argue that this long break is very valueable of the students, the supporters of the opposing view claim that the school holidays should have a shorter duration. This essay will discuss the both aspects in detail.

First of all, the long school voccations carry a significant importance in a student's life because they help a student to recharge properly and allow them to engage themselves in othe co-curricular activities in a proper way. Secondly, most of the students find this break useful because they can spend much time on their weaker subjects. Some students often learn additional language courses in this gap. Lastly, summer holidays also protect some younger students from heatstroke. Thus this ultimately prevent the students from carrying many health risks.

On the other hand, some people assert that the duration of the school holidays should be much shorter. They believe that longer holidays is just a waste of time of both the teachers and the students. According to them, this break should reman short as a longer gap can make students dull and may divert their attentions from their studies.

In conclusion, although longer holidays allow students to cover their weakness in their particular subjects, I firmly believe that this duration should be reduced by the educational authorities. This is because it can divert the student intentions from studies.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both questions: the first body paragraph gives reasons for long holidays, including rest, extra study and protection from heat, while the second presents the case for shorter breaks. Your conclusion also states a clear preference for reducing the holiday period. However, some points are asserted rather than explained. For example, the claim that holidays help students study weaker subjects would be stronger with a specific explanation of how they use that time, and the argument that long breaks make students “dull” needs support. The final position is also not fully consistent with the earlier benefits, since you do not explain why shorter holidays outweigh them. Develop and illustrate the main arguments more evenly.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two sides, and a conclusion. Sequencing phrases such as “First of all,” “Secondly,” “Lastly,” and “On the other hand” help readers follow the progression, and the main ideas are generally grouped appropriately. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent overall arrangement and shows some flexibility in organising the discussion. However, the repeated list-style transitions make the first body paragraph feel mechanical, and links between claims are sometimes abrupt. For instance, the move from extra study to protection from heat is not developed as a connected argument. The conclusion repeats the shorter-holiday position without clearly linking it to the discussion. Use more varied transitions and clearer references between ideas.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a reasonable range of topic-related vocabulary, including “co-curricular activities,” “weaker subjects,” “additional language courses,” and “educational authorities.” These choices show an attempt to discuss education beyond very basic terms, and the intended meaning is usually understandable. However, several spelling errors and awkward word combinations reduce precision, including “valueable,” “voccations,” “reman,” and “carry many health risks.” Phrases such as “a significant importance” and “waste of time of both the teachers and the students” are also not natural collocations. Aim for accurate, conventional phrasing rather than adding formal-sounding expressions. Proofreading spelling and checking how words commonly combine would make your vocabulary more effective and reliable.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use both simple and complex sentence forms, including a contrast clause beginning “While some people argue…” and a reason clause introduced by “because.” Most sentences communicate their main meaning, and the response is generally easy to follow. Some grammatical errors remain, particularly with agreement, articles and sentence construction. For example, “this long break is very valuable of the students” has an incorrect grammatical pattern, and “longer holidays is just a waste” does not match the plural subject. In “this ultimately prevent,” the verb form also needs to agree with its subject. The conclusion’s “divert the student intentions” has an unclear grammatical relationship. Review subject–verb agreement and practise building accurate noun phrases and clauses while retaining your range of sentence structures.
