Student answer (Band 6.0)

In different countries, primary and secondary schools shut down for 60 days or more in summar vacations. Schools give homework and different other activities to students to do at home. Although, some people believe that vacations period should be trimmed.

School holidays is the period when students get an opportunity to spend time with their familes and do different extra curricular activities at home. Some students go to their villages to unwind. while some students go on trip with their families. These trips make students aware about the life outside their school and they get closer to nature. Students also increase their knowledge about different places. Overall, This period give students ample time to do social activities, enhance their knowledge and spend time with their families.

There are some arguments in favour of shorter vacations. People believe that allowing students long holidays can distract their focus from studies. It breaks the consistency in students. When they come back from holidays they take an additional time to follow the old routine. Some parents also think that, their children do not utilise the holidays in a best way because they waste time at home. Parents often feel difficult to monitor children at home in holidays. Another concern among parents is that, children don't work deligently during holidays without teachers. Some parents often hire home tutor to regulate their students for vacation period. Home tutor brings adds a new cost for parents. That is why the argument is that if schools only provide shorter holidays then managing children can become little easier for parents during that period.

In conclusion, summer holidays is a valuable period for children to experience and learn different things. But at the same time, concern of children not utilising that time efficently is also rising.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses both questions: it explains the value of holidays through family time, trips, contact with nature and learning, then presents reasons for shorter breaks, including disrupted study routines and the difficulty parents face supervising children. The conclusion also recognises both sides. These are relevant ideas, but some are asserted rather than fully explained. For example, the claim that trips make students more aware of life outside school could be supported with a specific example, while the point about shorter holidays making management easier needs clearer explanation of how this benefits students or families. The discussion is therefore balanced but unevenly developed; extending the main points with examples and clearer cause-and-effect reasoning would strengthen the response.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay has a clear overall structure: an introduction, one paragraph for the benefits, one for arguments supporting shorter holidays, and a conclusion. Ideas generally progress logically within these sections, and linking expressions such as “Although,” “Overall,” and “That is why” help show relationships. This organisation is effective, but some connections feel mechanical or unclear. The opening “Although” does not lead into a contrasting clause, and the sequence of concerns about parents, tutors and costs could be grouped and linked more smoothly. There are also occasional punctuation and capitalisation choices that interrupt the flow. More precise transitions and clearer links between examples and the main argument would make the progression more consistently natural.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The response uses a relevant range of vocabulary, including “unwind,” “consistency,” “monitor,” and “regulate,” and these choices help communicate the main ideas. However, word choice and collocation are sometimes inaccurate or awkward, as in “summar vacations,” “vacations period,” “do social activities,” and “Home tutor brings adds a new cost.” Spelling errors such as “familes,” “deligently,” and “efficently” are noticeable, while repeated use of “students,” “holidays,” and “parents” limits flexibility. The meaning is generally recoverable, but more accurate collocations and careful proofreading are needed. Practise useful topic phrases such as “maintain academic momentum” and “supervise children” in complete sentences.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

There is a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including a conditional structure in “if schools only provide shorter holidays then managing children can become little easier” and a relative clause in “the period when students get an opportunity.” Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. Examples include subject–verb agreement in “School holidays is” and “This period give,” article use in “in a best way,” and sentence construction in “Home tutor brings adds a new cost.” The opening “Although” is also left without a complete contrasting clause. Review agreement, articles and clause structure, then proofread each sentence to catch errors while preserving the variety of structures you are attempting.
