Student answer (Band 6.0)

In various countries, primary and secondary schools provide two months summer break. There are significant values of long school holidays which will be discussed in next passages along with it some people give arguments in favour of short holidays. I strongly believe that the current summer break of about two month is very long and it should be reduced by considering the weather conditions and providing all important facilities to students by schools.

Overall, holidays are essential for younger school going kinds. It provide them opportunity to relax their body and mind. Weather conditions in many asian countries during summer are usually extreme hot. Particulary from Jun to August the temperature shots and it makes really challenging for small kids to sit in the class rooms as most of the class rooms do not provide the air condition facility. Furthermore many schools do not have electricity backup and during summer season poor countries like pakistan faces power shut down in different intervals of the day. Travelling during extreme environment conditions is also very hard, so this is also one of the cause that why schools provide long summer holidays to young students. This long summer break enable students to learn technical things other than theory knowledge. During this vocations students also enjoy sports during evening time. These activities helps students in building strong confident personalities.

Conversly, some people argue to shorter this summer break for school going students. Students losses their focus from studies due to this long break and they indulge in harmful activities like excessive usage of phones and social media. It is always an crucial time for students to learn basics of every domain. Therefore they require more time for it. Hence it is needed to short the summer holidays.

IN conclusion, I strongly accept the need of summer holiday due to extreme environment. However I highly suggest to reduce these summer holidays from two months to one month. Schools must bring the valid electronic devices to control the heat and maintain pleasent mood for students.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address both questions and maintain a clear view: long breaks help children cope with extreme heat, while shorter breaks may protect study habits and reduce unproductive screen use. The examples about classrooms without air conditioning or reliable electricity make the value of holidays relevant and specific. Your final suggestion—to reduce the break to one month while improving school facilities—also gives the response a practical position. However, the arguments for shorter holidays are less developed than those for long holidays: the claims about losing focus and using phones are asserted rather than supported with an example or explanation. To strengthen the response, explain how a shorter break could improve learning continuity and acknowledge how schools might address the heat-related concerns you describe.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two sides, and a conclusion. The progression from the benefits of a long break to arguments for shortening it is easy to follow, and signposts such as “Furthermore,” “Conversely,” and “In conclusion” help guide the reader. At times, however, linking feels mechanical or the reference is unclear. For example, “along with it some people give arguments” is awkward, and “Therefore they require more time for it” does not clearly identify what “it” refers to. The conclusion also repeats the position without fully reconciling the competing points. Use clearer topic sentences and connect each claim to its explanation more directly.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some topic-related vocabulary, including “extreme,” “power shut down,” “technical things,” and “harmful activities,” so the reader can understand the main ideas. However, the range and control are limited, with repeated or imprecise expressions that sometimes make meaning less natural. Examples include “summer break,” “extreme environment,” and “learn technical things other than theory knowledge”; the last phrase does not clearly express the intended contrast. There are also noticeable spelling and word-form errors, such as “vocations,” “Particulary,” and “confident personalities.” Aim for precise collocations and check spelling carefully. More accurate phrases for school learning, recreation, and heat-related conditions would make the argument clearer and more academic.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including a relative clause in “which will be discussed” and a reason clause beginning “as most of the class rooms do not provide…”. However, control is inconsistent, and errors in agreement, articles, verb forms, and sentence construction occur often enough to distract the reader. For example, “It provide them opportunity” needs a singular verb and an article, while “These activities helps” has a subject–verb agreement error. The opening sentence also has an incomplete construction: “There are significant values … along with it some people give arguments.” Punctuation and sentence boundaries need attention, particularly where sentences run together. Practise accurate basic clauses first, then build longer sentences around one clear main idea.
