Student answer (Band 6.0)

In many countries, primary and secondary schools provide holidays for two months and more during summer holidays. While giving holidays to the students will help them in personal growth and well being. There has been an arguments for shortening of holidays prevent leatrning loss and help working parents.

The main value for long holidays given to the students much needed break for long academic pressure. The school year is highly stressed, the children need to rest properly relax themselves in order to recharge their energy, which prevent the burnouts. However, long holidays help the children explore them and learn new skills. For example, in summer holidays many students visit to their relatives or some travel with their families pursue new hobbies and join the sports. Additionally, these long holidays helps them to learn new skills like swimming and music. Therefore these activities helps in social and independence skills, which cannot be learn regularly in the classroom.

On the other hand, there has been a compelling debate for the shortening of holidays. The biggest issue is "two month long break " which is the main problem for the student the forgot what they had learned. This problem commonly called as "summer learning loss". Whereas the teachers has to review the previous academic lessons to the students which is waste of precious time. Unfortunately, it create problem for the working parents the long two months holiday breaks will make them to hire a child care. Which is very expensive the parents have to reduce their working hours or they have to take unpaid leaves for their children.

In conclusion, long holiday will help in the children personal growth and well being and make them relax. Conversely shortening holiday will help in preventing loss of learning and working parents.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both questions and maintain a relevant overall position: long breaks support rest and personal development, while shorter breaks may reduce learning loss and ease childcare pressures. The examples of visiting relatives, travelling, and learning swimming or music help explain the value of holidays. The case for shorter holidays is also relevant, particularly your point that teachers may need to revisit earlier lessons. However, some ideas are less fully developed than others: the benefits of shorter holidays are mainly asserted, and the effect on working parents could be explained more clearly. Develop each main point with a specific consequence or example, and make the comparison between the two positions more explicit.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two sides, and a conclusion that summarises the contrast. This gives the reader a coherent route through the discussion. You use signposts such as “For example,” “Additionally,” and “On the other hand” to connect points, and the examples generally follow the claims they support. However, some links are mechanical or unclear. “Whereas” does not connect smoothly to the preceding sentence, and “This problem” has an awkward reference after the quotation about the break. Some sentences also run ideas together, especially in the paragraph about childcare. Use clearer sentence boundaries and more precise referencing to make the progression smoother.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “academic pressure,” “recharge their energy,” “summer learning loss,” and “child care.” These expressions help communicate the main arguments, and the response attempts some less common language related to education and development. However, several choices or forms are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “explore them,” “the student the forgot,” and “social and independence skills.” Spelling errors such as “leatrning” also reduce accuracy. These issues do not prevent the reader from understanding the main points, but they limit precision. Aim to learn common word partnerships and check spelling and word forms when revising.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a contrast introduced by “While” and a relative clause in “skills, which cannot be learn regularly in the classroom.” However, control is uneven, and several errors make some sentences difficult to follow. For example, “While giving holidays to the students will help…” is an incomplete sentence, while “the teachers has to review” and “these long holidays helps” show problems with subject–verb agreement. The childcare point also contains sentence-boundary problems: “Which is very expensive” is a fragment. Practise building complete clauses, checking singular and plural subjects against their verbs, and separating connected ideas with appropriate punctuation.
