Student answer (Band 5.0)

Primary and secondary schools shut down for the summer holidays in numerous countries. I will dissus the value of long holidays in the life childrens. Furtermore, i will also dissus some arguments in the favour of shorter holidays.

Long holidays play a vital role in development of child by relaxing the child from hardwork and pressure of school work and giving time to learn different skills. Long holidays are important for child as it can spend more time with family and understand family and create a strong bond. On the other hand in long holidays child can go to visit different places in country and across the world which help them to learn many things about histroy and present of visting place. Futhermore, by visiting different places they can make new friends and by talking to people can help them to improve there social interaction.

Furthermore, there are some arguments amoung people who support shorter holidays. People say that it is better for child to spend more time in school and college studing ruther then doing harch and dangures activities. Some people belive that their child could loose constration from their studies and some belivies that child learn more skills from school ruther than doing activities outdoor.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You address both questions: you explain that long holidays allow children to rest, spend time with family, visit places and develop social skills, then give reasons some people prefer shorter breaks. However, the response is brief and the ideas are mostly listed rather than explained with examples or detail. The case for shorter holidays is especially limited: studying more and avoiding dangerous activities are mentioned, but the effect of long breaks on learning or routines is not developed. The opening also promises a discussion without establishing a clear overall position. The response is 43 words below the required minimum, which restricts the space available to develop both parts. Extend each main point with a reason or relevant example and make your position clear.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, a paragraph on the value of long holidays and a paragraph presenting arguments for shorter ones. This helps the reader follow the broad topic. You also use signposts such as “On the other hand” and “Furthermore” to connect points. However, progression within paragraphs is mostly a sequence of claims, with little explanation of how one idea leads to the next. “Furthermore” is repeated, and “On the other hand” does not clearly signal a contrast within the paragraph about long holidays. Some references, such as “it” and “they,” are not always clear. Group related points and use linking expressions to show the precise relationship between them.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “development,” “pressure,” “strong bond,” “social interaction” and “shorter holidays.” There are also attempts to use less common expressions, such as “vital role” and “arguments in favour.” However, the range is limited, and several spelling errors are noticeable, including “disscus,” “Furtermore,” “histroy” and “constration.” Some word choices or combinations are unclear or unnatural, for example “learn many things about history and present of visiting place” and “hard and dangerous activities.” These errors sometimes make the reader work to understand the intended meaning. Check spelling carefully and practise precise collocations, such as “maintain academic progress” or “take part in outdoor activities.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You mainly use simple sentences and make some attempts to join ideas with clauses, as in “by talking to people can help them to improve…” and “People say that it is better for child to spend more time…”. These attempts show some range, but the structures are often faulty. Errors with articles, plurals and agreement occur throughout: “development of child,” “for child,” and “their child could loose” do not consistently match the intended meaning. The sentence beginning “On the other hand in long holidays child can…” also lacks clear punctuation and grammatical framing. These frequent errors can make parts of the response difficult to read, although the general message remains understandable. Practise accurate basic sentence patterns first, then build longer sentences with subordinate clauses.
