Student answer (Band 4.5)
Education is very crucial for every body so the parents want to teach their children in a good school In many countries primary and secondary schools there is a long holiday in summer season There are some advantages and disadvantages of long holidays No doubts , long term holidays are very good because student become furstrated from study They need a rest from daily home work or they fel stress free in the holidays They very from from them After a long holiday the mimd of students become fresh and sharp and in holidays they build a craze of going to school It is very important for students to enjoy the holidays But there are some dis advantages of long holidays if there are long holidays students ca tease their parents and refuse to do the daily work and tasks because they have no fear that teacher will check their home work or if they do not do their home work on daily basis so they go away from the studies and waist their time in the useless activities and become aggerssive so the parents are in favour of shorter holidays The disadvantages are more than advantages in my opinion govt should do the shorter holidays so the loss of education will be reduce In conclusion, holidays are important but shorter holidays are better than longer holidays so the loss off education is minimum and safe the students career

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You address both questions by describing benefits of a break—students can rest and return feeling “fresh and sharp”—and arguments for shorter holidays, such as maintaining study habits and reducing time spent on unproductive activities. Your view that shorter holidays are preferable is also stated in the conclusion. However, the response only partially develops these points: the value of long holidays is mostly asserted, and the case for shorter holidays relies on broad claims about students refusing tasks or becoming aggressive, without a specific example or explanation. The position is present but not consistently supported. The response is 11 words below the required minimum, which also limits the opportunity to explain and support the ideas more fully.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
There is a basic overall sequence: you introduce the topic, discuss advantages, turn to disadvantages, state your preference, and conclude. Linking expressions such as “But” and “In conclusion” help signal these stages. However, the response is presented as one long block, so the main points are difficult to distinguish, and progression within the discussion is unclear. Several ideas run together, particularly the claims about homework, parents, and students’ behaviour. Repeated use of “holidays” and “because” also makes the connections mechanical rather than clearly guiding the reader. Use separate paragraphs for the introduction, each side of the discussion, and the conclusion, and connect each reason to its consequence more explicitly.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You use some relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “stress,” “daily homework,” “advantages and disadvantages,” and “loss of education.” This gives the reader a basic sense of your ideas. However, the range is limited and several words or phrases are repeated, especially “holidays,” “students,” and “home work.” There are also noticeable spelling and word-choice problems, including “furstrated,” “waist their time,” and “aggerssive,” which can make the intended meaning harder to follow. Some expressions are unclear or unnatural, such as “They very from from them” and “build a craze of going to school.” Aim for accurate, natural collocations and use a wider range of terms for rest, learning continuity, and school routines.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response mainly uses simple statements and attempts to join several ideas into longer sentences, for example the sentence beginning “But there are some dis advantages of long holidays.” This shows an effort to explain causes and consequences, but the long sentence is difficult to follow because clauses are joined without clear punctuation or control. Frequent errors in sentence structure, agreement, articles, and verb forms also affect clarity: “student become,” “the mimd of students become,” and “the loss of education will be reduce” are examples. Punctuation is often missing, including spaces before commas and full stops. Build accuracy first with shorter, complete sentences, then practise combining them using correctly formed subordinate clauses and clear punctuation.
