Student answer (Band 6.0)
In many countries, primary and secondary schools close for two months or more in the summer.
Some people thing this long break is essential, while other believe shoter holidays are a better option.
There are several reasons why school long holidays are valueable. Firstly, students work very hard during school year and face alot of stress from examination and homework. A long break of two months give them enough time to rest their mind and stay healthy. Secondly, during extended holidays children should learn new skills that are not taught in the school. such as driving, swimming and drawing. They also have time to go to trip with their families to explore new things and enjoy.
However, there are strong arguments in savor of having short summer holidays. The argument is that student should forget what they learned during long gap. When they return to school after two months, teachers have spend many weeks in repeating the previous lesson instead of starting new one. Another problem is for parents who spend their time in jobs or work. When holidays are two long, paernts find it difficult to take daily care of their children while thay are at work.
In conclusion, long summer holidays give students good rest and time for personal activities, but they also lead to forgetting lessons and cause problem for parents. Therefore, I believe that having shorter but more frequent breaks throughtout the year is a better solution.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address both parts of the question: you explain the value of long holidays through rest, learning skills and family trips, then give reasons for shorter breaks, including lesson revision and parents’ childcare difficulties. Your conclusion also states a clear preference for shorter, more frequent breaks. However, some points are only briefly developed—for example, the benefits of learning new skills are listed rather than explained with a specific example. The response is also below the required 250 words: 224 words were counted, and 16 words copied from the prompt were excluded. This limits the space available to extend and support your ideas. Develop each main point with a clear explanation or relevant example.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure, with an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two sides, and a conclusion. The progression from the benefits of long holidays to arguments for shorter ones is easy to follow, and signposts such as “Firstly,” “Secondly,” and “However” help guide the reader. This meets the lower-band expectations and shows some features of stronger organisation. To improve further, make links between ideas less list-like and clarify references: “The argument is that student should forget what they learned” appears to mean that students may forget, rather than that they should. Also check punctuation and spacing at paragraph boundaries, such as the missing space in “parents. Therefore,” and use transitions to connect examples to the point they support.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “extended holidays,” “examination,” “repeating,” and “daily care.” There are also attempts at more specific expressions, such as “personal activities” and “explore new things.” However, the range is limited in places, and noticeable spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision: “thing,” “shoter,” “valueable,” “alot,” “savor,” “paernts,” and “throughtout.” Some combinations are also unnatural, including “school long holidays” and “go to trip.” These errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the overall argument, but careful proofreading and more natural collocations would make the writing clearer and more flexible.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use a mixture of simple sentences and some longer structures, including a relative clause in “parents who spend their time in jobs or work” and a contrast introduced by “while.” The main message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors occur in verb forms, agreement, articles and sentence construction. For example, “A long break of two months give them” needs subject–verb agreement, while “teachers have spend” uses the wrong verb form. “During school year” and “starting new one” also need articles. The fragment beginning “such as driving, swimming and drawing” should be joined to the preceding sentence. Practise checking each sentence for a complete clause, correct verb form and necessary articles, while continuing to use varied sentence patterns.
