Student answer (Band 5.0)
In recent years, the longs school holidays has been discussed many time. In many countries the school had been closed for more than two months in summer holidays.
On the one hand, the summer holidays are good for children where they can enjoy with their families and spent quality time together. The children are waiting for holidays whole the year. In many countries, mostly people tiered from work they move to abroad to spent quality with their families. These two month of summer holidays make the children and their parents relax from stressful routine. Mostly people moved to other counties, cities, and different sites. Mostly countries there is cold weather whole the year and they cannot take sun bath. So they moved to those areas where the sun arose.
On the other hand, the short school holidays are less than long summer holidays, but these short holidays are also necessary for buzzy routine of weak. The weakened holidays makes a person calm and relax. Mostly people in the short holidays travel toward the relatives. Some families travel toward the parks and enjoy with their children. In some counties, due to the lack of sun bath they moved to beaches and take sun bath.
In conclusion, long term summer holidays for primary and secondary schools are necessary for children relaxation. This is therapy of children after the hectic routine. The short holidays are also necessary because after the daily boring routine. It will make the children relax and they will happy to continue their routine.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response addresses both questions: it describes benefits of longer breaks, such as family time and recovery from a stressful routine, and gives reasons for shorter breaks, including weekly rest and visits to relatives or parks. However, the discussion is only partial because the ideas are mostly asserted rather than explained. For example, the claim that long holidays help families travel to sunny places is repeated, but the response does not explain why this is a particular value of school holidays or how shorter holidays might benefit learning, attendance, or family schedules. The conclusion restates that both types of holiday are necessary, but does not clarify the writer’s position on their relative merits. Develop fewer points with specific explanations or examples.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two sides, and a conclusion. The signposts “On the one hand” and “On the other hand” help readers identify the contrast, and the main ideas generally remain grouped by topic. However, progression within paragraphs is limited, and several sentences repeat similar points about relaxing, travelling, and taking sunbaths. Linking is also sometimes mechanical, with repeated use of “Mostly” and “So,” while references such as “these short holidays” and “they” are not always precise. To improve, organise each body paragraph around one main reason, explain it in sequence, and use a wider range of clear links between cause, example, and result.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The response uses a basic range of vocabulary relevant to holidays and school routines, including “quality time,” “stressful routine,” “relatives,” and “hectic routine.” These choices make the general topic understandable. However, vocabulary is repetitive and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, sometimes making the meaning difficult to follow. For instance, “the longs school holidays,” “buzzy routine of weak,” and “sun arose” do not express the intended ideas naturally; “spent quality” also needs a suitable noun after it. Spelling errors such as “counties” for “countries” and “weakened” for “weekend” further affect clarity. Build a more precise set of phrases for school breaks, family activities, and educational effects, and check spelling and collocations carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response mainly relies on simple sentences, with a few attempts to connect ideas using clauses such as “where they can enjoy with their families” and “because after the daily boring routine.” These attempts show some effort to vary sentence forms, but they are often faulty, and frequent errors affect clarity. Examples include “the longs school holidays has been discussed,” where the subject and verb do not agree, and “the school had been closed,” where the tense is unsuitable for a general statement. Articles, plurals, and verb forms are also inconsistent, as in “These two month … make” and “they will happy.” Practise accurate present-tense statements and simple complex sentences, checking agreement, articles, and complete clause structure.
