Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address both questions and maintain a clear overall position: long breaks support rest and personal development, while shorter breaks may help learning and working families. Relevant explanations include students returning “more relaxed and motivated” and regular lessons helping them retain information. This covers the task well, but the two sides are not developed equally: the benefits of long holidays receive examples such as travel and hobbies, whereas the case for shorter holidays is stated more generally. The point about parents needing supervision is relevant but could be explained with a concrete example. To strengthen the response, extend each main reason with a specific illustration and clarify why you ultimately consider shorter holidays reasonable, while acknowledging any trade-off such as reduced time for rest or family activities.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two positions, and a conclusion that restates your view. The progression from rest and personal interests to academic continuity and family arrangements is easy to follow. Linking expressions such as “However,” “Firstly,” “Secondly,” and “In conclusion” help signal the stages of the argument. At times, though, the connections feel formulaic, and some sentences contain several related points without showing their relationship precisely. For example, the list of exams, responsibilities, and homework could be organised more smoothly, and the conclusion repeats earlier benefits rather than synthesising the comparison. Use a wider range of referencing and linking, and make the relationship between each reason and its consequence explicit.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “academic progress,” “balanced routine,” “supervision,” and “motivated,” and the reader can generally understand your ideas. However, spelling errors and inaccurate word forms are noticeable throughout, including “studing,” “responsabilities,” “triedness,” “adventages,” and “personel.” Some word combinations are also unnatural, such as “find it difficult arrange suitable activities” and “develop personal interests” in this context. These errors limit the precision and control expected at a higher level, even though the intended meaning is usually recoverable. Build a reliable set of topic vocabulary and check spelling and collocations carefully; prefer accurate, natural phrases over attempting more complex wording.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a contrast clause in “while long holidays offer several benefits” and a result clause beginning “as a result.” The main ideas remain understandable, but grammatical errors recur and sometimes make sentences awkward. Examples include “may student forget,” “when they stay a long period away their studies,” and “parents who struggle to find it difficult arrange,” where agreement, prepositions, or sentence construction need correction. There are also inconsistent capitalisation and punctuation, such as starting sentences with lowercase letters and spacing before commas. Practise accurate clause construction and check subject–verb agreement, articles, and prepositions. Aim to make your complex sentences reliable before adding further complexity.
