Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You address both questions: you give reasons for long holidays, such as allowing students to rest, and state that shorter holidays could help them remember lessons and study regularly. However, these ideas are brief and sometimes unclear, and the response does not fully explain the value of long breaks or develop the case for shorter ones with a specific example. The opening says the essay will discuss both sides, but the final position is not clearly established beyond saying holidays “should be short.” The response is also 21 words below the 250-word minimum; the eight words copied from the task prompt are excluded from the count. Add relevant explanation and examples to develop each main point and meet the required length.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, paragraphs on the two sides, and a conclusion. Basic signposting such as “Another reason,” “Regarding,” and “In conclusion” helps readers follow the intended direction. However, progression is limited: the first two body paragraphs repeat the idea that students need rest, while the paragraph on shorter holidays combines several claims without showing how they connect. Some linking is inaccurate or mechanical, as in “this because” and “as result,” and the final sentence, “Overall, both answer was crucial,” does not clearly summarise the argument. Organise each body paragraph around one distinct point, then explain its consequence and support it with an example; use clear references and linking phrases.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “academic performance,” “exhausted,” “recover,” and “confident,” so the reader can identify the main subject and ideas. However, the range is limited and several word-choice, collocation, and spelling problems make parts of the response difficult to understand. For example, “recharge their batteries” is repeated, “consume more energy” is not a natural description of exam preparation, and “final season” does not clearly express the intended meaning. There are also spelling errors such as “exemple,” “prapre,” and “allowe.” Build a wider set of accurate phrases for rest, learning retention, and academic progress, and check spelling and collocations during revision.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences using reasons and results, for example, “Another reason is that they feel exhausted because have many homework, as result they need long holidays.” This shows an effort to connect ideas, but the sentence patterns are often faulty, and errors frequently make the meaning harder to follow. Examples include “Summer holidays … has become,” “There several reason,” “they were feel stressful,” and “students can remember lessons easier, this because period is short.” These show problems with subject–verb agreement, missing verbs or articles, verb forms, and sentence boundaries. Practise building accurate basic clauses first, then join them with “because,” “so,” or “which means that.” Proofread each sentence for a clear subject and correctly formed verb.
