Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5
The response makes an attempt to address both questions, but the discussion is very limited and the value of long holidays is not clearly explained. The first body paragraph mentions free time, activities and homework, while the second suggests shorter holidays help students attend class and complete work; however, these points are difficult to follow and are not supported with clear, relevant examples. The conclusion focuses only on students enjoying and relaxing during long holidays, so the position on the two options remains incomplete. The response also does not meet the 250-word minimum: it contains 212 words, and the eight words copied from the task prompt were not counted. Develop each argument with a clear explanation and a specific example.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response has a recognisable essay structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion. Basic signposting such as “To begin with,” “Furthermore,” and “As a result” shows an attempt to guide the reader. However, progression within the paragraphs is weak: ideas such as holidays, activities, homework and completing the syllabus are placed together without clear links explaining how one leads to another. Some linking expressions are also used mechanically or do not fit the relationship between ideas. The conclusion does not summarise both sides discussed. To improve, organise each paragraph around one main point, explain it in a logical sequence, and use linking words only where their meaning is appropriate.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.0
Vocabulary is basic and repetitive, with frequent reliance on phrases such as “school holidays,” “students,” “important,” and “complete.” There are attempts to use topic-related language, including “syllabus,” “class room” and “free time,” but several choices are unclear or inaccurate, for example “new new activists” and “short time holidays improved the students activists.” Spelling errors such as “thime,” “favore” and “Consequentl” also reduce clarity. The reader can identify the general topic, but the limited range makes it difficult to express the arguments precisely. Build a small set of accurate phrases for discussing rest, learning and school routines, and check spelling and word forms before submitting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
There is some use of simple and linked sentence forms, including “There are different opinions about this topic” and “As a result they are complete the syllabus.” However, control is inconsistent, and several sentences contain errors in agreement, verb forms or sentence construction. For example, “the long school holidays and short school holidays has become” needs a plural verb, while “they are complete” does not use the correct verb form. The fragment “This is a very good side in all students” also lacks a clear grammatical structure. Punctuation and capitalisation are uneven, as in “Nowadays, The…”. Practise accurate simple sentences first, then add subordinate clauses while checking subject–verb agreement and verb forms.
