Student answer (Band 6.0)
In the recent time, closing primary and secondary schools for two or more months has been valuable due to many reasons like getting enrolled in new courses or working on weak areas. In contrast, argument has been made for shorter school holidays for maintaining the momentum and ruducing the students getting involved with online games throughout the vacations.
There are several reasons for long school holidays being valuable and one of them is students getting enrolled for summer courses or camps. These courses or camps brings new knowledge to a child and get them involved with learning different abilities like painting, learning musical instruments or other activities.
Another reason is that a childern get time to work on their weak areas. Many students sometimes face difficulty in subjects and are unable to manage during the school period due to the ongoing schedule. For example, a student suffering in mathematics, get tutions in long school holidays. Therefore, long school holidays helps individuals work on themselves and their flaws.
There are several arguments in favour of shorter school holidays and one of them is childern will not get involved in unnecessary online games. Games like pubg or call of duty are played when student feel they have nothing to do. Shorter vacations will most likely reduce that thought due to the less time period given.
Secondly, short breaks keep the momentum maintained. This manages the ongoing routine, without disturbing the daily life and helps a child keeping the balance with their schedule. For instance, a student getting 10 day holidays from school will avoid planning activities which involves long duration. In a result, the routine will be maintained and managed.
In conclusion, long breaks from school provide time to a student to get valuable information from different leisures and work on their weak points while shorter breaks keep the momentum alive and does not involve a struggle for a student to manage their routine.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses both questions and maintains a clear comparison: long holidays allow students to attend courses and work on weaker subjects, while shorter breaks may preserve routine and reduce time spent gaming. These are relevant points, and the mathematics tutoring example gives one idea some support. However, the value of long holidays is explained more fully than the case for shorter ones, whose claims about gaming and routine are asserted rather than explored. The example of a ten-day break is also not fully connected to why shorter holidays benefit learning or students’ wellbeing. Develop each main point with a clearer explanation or a specific, relevant example, and make the comparison between the two positions more precise.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two sides, and a conclusion that summarises them. Ideas generally progress in a logical order, and signposts such as “Another reason,” “Secondly,” and “In conclusion” help the reader follow the discussion. This organisation is effective, though some linking is mechanical because several paragraphs begin with similar formulae. Connections within the shorter-holidays paragraph are less clear: the example about a ten-day holiday does not convincingly show how routine is maintained, and “In a result” does not express the intended relationship naturally. Use more precise links between claims and examples, and vary transitions so that the progression feels less formulaic.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the main ideas, with relevant terms such as “summer courses,” “weak areas,” “momentum,” and “routine.” There are also attempts to use more specific language, including examples of activities and games. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, which limits precision: “getting enrolled in new courses,” “different abilities,” and “valuable information from different leisures” do not express the intended meanings naturally. Spelling errors such as “ruducing,” “childern,” and “tutions” are noticeable. Build accuracy by learning common collocations for education and leisure, and proofread spelling and word forms before submitting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response uses both simple sentences and some attempts at complex structures, including clauses with “due to,” “when,” and “which.” Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors recur in agreement, articles, and verb forms. For example, “These courses or camps brings” should use a plural verb, while “a student suffering in mathematics, get tutions” has an incorrect subject–verb relationship and an incomplete sentence structure. In “helps a child keeping the balance,” the verb pattern is also inaccurate. Practise checking each sentence’s subject and verb, and review article use and verb patterns after “help.” More consistently accurate complex sentences would strengthen control.
