Student answer (Band 5.0)

In many countries mostly in pakistan the primary and secondary schools are close for two months or more than two months.in many cases the long school holidays have a much value sach as in summer season there is a lot of heat and warm environment which greatly effect the health of people sometimes people cannot bear this heat so due to this factor the authority of education provide holidays to primary and secondary holidays .holidays are considersd very enjoyful days for the students .The students make plane with theirs families and go to the hilly areas for refreshment.long holidays are very beautiful days for the studentd which are very tired from study and warmly welcome the holidays with lot of wait .In another ways this thing has disadvantage as well .after a long holidays the students lost all of their knowledge and went back to school with dull and empty minded .I have in the favoue of shorter holidays beacuse long holidays are very bad for the students .A really hardworking students also want to combine with the studies and achieves with their goals .The teachers which are sincere to the students feature they also in the favour of short holidays.I also a hardworking student and want to achieve my goals so thats why i am in fevour of short holidays .I saw there are many examples from my surrounding those students who always like long holidays are not performed well in the exams as compare to those which dislike long holidays.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You address both questions: you explain that long holidays offer relief from summer heat and give students time to rest and travel, then argue that shorter breaks help students retain knowledge and stay focused on their goals. Your position in favour of shorter holidays is stated clearly near the end. However, the ideas are only partly developed. For example, the claim that students return “dull and empty minded” would be stronger with an explanation of how a shorter break supports learning, while the benefits of long holidays could include a more specific example. The response therefore covers the main parts of the task, but its supporting reasons remain limited and some claims are broad.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

There is a recognisable movement from the benefits of long holidays to their disadvantages and your preference for shorter breaks. Linking expressions such as “In another ways” and “so thats why” show an attempt to connect ideas. However, the response is presented as one continuous block, so the shift between the two sides of the discussion is difficult to follow. Several points are repeated, particularly that holidays are enjoyable and that you favour shorter ones, without a clear progression from reason to explanation or example. Use separate paragraphs for the value of long holidays, the case for shorter holidays, and your conclusion. More precise links between claims and supporting examples would make the organisation clearer.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “refreshment,” “hardworking,” “achieve my goals,” and “in favour of.” These choices help communicate your main ideas about rest, study, and academic progress. However, the range is limited and several words or phrases are repeated, such as “long holidays” and “students.” Some choices are inaccurate or unnatural, including “a much value,” “warmly welcome,” and “empty minded,” while spelling errors such as “enjoyful” and “fevour” are noticeable. These issues sometimes make the reader pause to interpret your meaning. Aim for more precise collocations and check spelling, while keeping the vocabulary appropriate and natural.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt to express reasons and contrasts using longer sentences, for example, the sentence beginning “In many cases” and the contrast introduced by “In another ways.” This shows an effort to go beyond short, simple statements. However, complex sentences are often difficult to control, and frequent errors in sentence boundaries, verb forms, agreement, and articles affect clarity. For instance, “the primary and secondary schools are close” uses an incorrect verb form, and “the students lost all of their knowledge” does not fit the intended general meaning. Capitalisation and punctuation are also inconsistent, with several sentences joined together. Practise writing shorter, complete sentences first, then add subordinate clauses and check each sentence for a clear subject and verb.
