Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You address both questions: you explain that a long summer break gives students time to relax and visit family, and argue that shorter holidays may help them maintain study habits and avoid forgetting material. Your position is broadly in favour of a break, while recognising the case for shortening it. However, the discussion is only partly developed. The value of holidays is mainly described as relief from study pressure, and the case for shorter breaks relies largely on the possibility of forgetting maths. The example about daily study is difficult to follow and does not clearly support the point. Develop each side with a clearer explanation and a specific, relevant example, and make your final position more decisive.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the benefits and drawbacks of long holidays, and a conclusion. This helps the reader follow the main contrast, and transitions such as “On the contrary,” “However,” and “In conclusion” signal the stages of the argument. Cohesion is less successful within some sentences, where several ideas are joined without clear relationships. For example, the discussion of exam performance, shorter holidays, and maths practice runs together, making the reasoning harder to track. Some linking phrases also feel mechanical or do not express the intended relationship precisely. Use shorter, clearly connected sentences and ensure each paragraph develops one main point in a logical sequence.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You attempt a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “mental pressure,” “performance,” “leisure time,” and “acquiring knowledge,” and the reader can generally understand your main ideas. However, word choice and collocation are often inaccurate or unnatural, which sometimes makes meaning unclear. Phrases such as “enjoy with friends and family,” “cooling period,” and “sidetrack from the flow of coaching” do not express the intended ideas naturally. There are also word-form and spelling problems, including “mathematic formulas” and “exhausted” where a different form is needed. Build accuracy by learning common word partnerships for education and holidays, and check that each chosen word fits its grammatical and contextual role.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “where,” “which,” and “although.” However, control is inconsistent, and errors in sentence structure, verb forms, agreement, articles, and punctuation sometimes make the reader work to understand the point. For example, “The primary benefit of summer vacation, where learner enjoy that period” is an incomplete sentence, while “which is ultimately help them” has an incorrect verb construction. In the conclusion, “although there are a negative impact” also shows an agreement problem, and the final sentence contains several ideas without clear punctuation. Practise building complete sentences around one main clause, then check subject–verb agreement and verb forms.
