Student answer (Band 5.0)

In many countries, schools have summer holidays for two months or even loger. Some people believe that long holidays are beneficial for students, while other think that shorter holidays are better. in my opinion, both have advantages, some disadvantage i will discuss in upcomming paragragh.

On the one hand, long school holidays have several benefits. Firstly, students get enought time to relax after studying hard throughout the year. They can spend quality time with their families and spend qyality time with their families and friends. Secondly, students can take part in different activites, such as playing sports , travelling and learning new skills. For example, during summer holidays, children can join sports clubs.

On the other hand, shorter school holidays also have important advantages. The main benefits is that students can continue their studies regulary and remember what they have learned. After a long break, some students forget important information and find it difficult school start agian. Moreover, shorter holidays can help students develop better study habits.

in conclusion, both are advantage and some disadvantage, although on my opinion short holidays are good for every one to remainber easlly .

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You address both questions by describing benefits of long holidays—rest, family time and activities—and reasons for shorter breaks, such as retaining knowledge and maintaining study habits. The examples of joining sports clubs and forgetting information after a long break are relevant. However, the ideas remain brief and are not sufficiently explained or supported, and the conclusion gives only a vague preference for shorter holidays (“good for every one”) rather than a clear, developed position. The opening also says both options have advantages and disadvantages without clarifying your view. The response is 60 words below the required minimum, which limits the space available to develop the arguments. Extend each main point with explanation or a specific example, and state your position clearly.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, one paragraph for each side of the discussion, and a conclusion. “On the one hand” and “On the other hand” help signal the contrast, and the main ideas are generally easy to follow. However, progression within paragraphs is limited, and the conclusion does not clearly follow from a position established in the introduction. Some linking is mechanical, with repeated “Firstly,” “Secondly,” and “Moreover,” while the opening sentence is difficult to follow because its ideas are not clearly connected. There is also an unnecessary repetition of “spend quality time with their families.” Develop a clearer sequence within each paragraph and use referencing and transitions to connect ideas without repeating them.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main points, including “summer holidays,” “relax,” “sports clubs,” “remember what they have learned,” and “study habits.” However, the range is limited and several spelling and word-choice errors make the writing less clear or polished: “loger,” “enought,” “activites,” and “upcomming” are examples. Some phrases are also repetitive or imprecise, such as “spend quality time” appearing twice and “good for every one.” Aim to use a wider range of accurate expressions for learning and rest, and check spelling carefully. More precise wording would help distinguish between the benefits of a long break and the educational advantages of shorter, more frequent breaks.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You use some basic sentence patterns and attempt a few longer structures, such as “After a long break, some students forget important information and find it difficult…” The meaning is usually recoverable, but frequent errors in sentence formation, agreement, and punctuation reduce accuracy. For example, “other think” needs a plural verb, “The main benefits is” has subject–verb disagreement, and “find it difficult school start again” is missing grammatical words and a clear structure. The opening and conclusion also contain sentence-boundary and capitalisation problems, including lowercase “in” after a full stop. Practise checking each sentence for a complete clause, correct subject–verb agreement, and appropriate punctuation; then build confidence with accurate complex sentences.
