Student answer (Band 5.0)

Primary and secondary schools in most countries usually close for two months or more in summer vacations. In my oponion, vacations should be shorter and there must be tours during sessions and break at end of the term.

Vactions for longer peroid of time can draw attention from studies, but on other hand people argue that childern can get break from studies and safe from harsh environment, that are useless statements. Research, on school level in different countries, reveals that children comming back to schools after vacations take time to become focused. Schools are now introducing study tours and short break to cop with this problem and a latest data support this statement.

Vacations for small period in summer after ending of term proves much beneficail at school level. Children can get enough time to go with family for enjoying vacations and also it does not disturb their studies. Trips and study tours, time to time, on different places have much significance because they can explore, learn and at the same enjoy things. This could provide childern a chance to get to know about things and they will stay focused and stick with their studies.

In conclusion, sorter holidays are much beneficail than that of long one dur to its diverse benefits.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You give a clear preference for shorter holidays and mention benefits of longer breaks, including time with family and relief from study. However, the response only partially addresses the two questions: the value of long holidays is dismissed as “useless statements” rather than explained fairly, while the case for shorter holidays is asserted more than developed. The claims about children losing focus after vacations and schools introducing study tours need clearer explanation or a relevant example. Your position is present, but the discussion is limited and some reasoning is unclear. The response is also 39 words below the required minimum, leaving less space to develop both sides. Explain each benefit and argument with a specific example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion. The second body paragraph focuses on shorter holidays, and the conclusion restates your preference, so the reader can follow the general direction. However, progression between ideas is sometimes unclear. For example, the first body paragraph moves from the effects of long holidays to children needing a break, then to research and study tours without showing how these points connect. Linking phrases such as “on the other hand” and “in conclusion” help, but some connections are mechanical or imprecise. Develop one main idea at a time, use clear references, and make the relationship between each claim and its supporting explanation explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant vocabulary, including “focused,” “study tours,” “harsh environment” and “diverse benefits,” which helps communicate the topic. However, the range is limited and several word-choice, collocation and spelling errors make the writing less clear or natural. Examples include “vacations for longer period,” “draw attention from studies,” and “stick with their studies”; more idiomatic choices would be “a longer holiday,” “distract children from their studies,” and “remain engaged in learning.” There are also repeated spelling errors such as “oponion,” “childern” and “beneficail.” Check spelling carefully and build a wider set of accurate phrases for discussing education, rest and learning.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, such as “Children can get enough time to go with family for enjoying vacations and also it does not disturb their studies.” However, control is inconsistent, and errors in sentence structure, agreement, articles and punctuation sometimes make the meaning difficult to follow. For example, “people argue that childern can get break from studies and safe from harsh environment, that are useless statements” has unclear clause structure and agreement. “Vacations for small period in summer after ending of term proves” also has problems with articles and subject–verb agreement. Use shorter, complete sentences when needed, and check that each clause has a clear subject and verb. Practise accurate complex sentences with “although,” “because” and “while.”
