Student answer (Band 5.0)

In several countries, in the summer holidays, primary and secondary schools are closed for more than two months. Holidays have great number of significane in the lives of the children's. The purpose of long term holidays is to make children fresh and relax from studies. The burden of studies had so much unpleasent effect on them that they do not even have enough time to play with their friends in the playarea. In the holidays, children can awake at any time they want. They don't have to follow that strict routine for two months which makes them happy. Beside this, They are free from their daily headache of homework. However, the main reason for the holidays is not only make the children feel relax and calm but also make them practically strong and brave. It's the reponsibility of te parents to make their children's mentally and physically strong. To make children strong, parents should give them proper diet without adding any kind of junkfood. Parents should also do this kind of activities which develop problem solving and critical thinking skills in children. But there is also another side of the argument. Another main reason for holidays is that students cover their syllabus as well as their holiday work in three months holidays. Some people are in favour of shorter school holidays because they are unable to maintain children's daily routine which make parents more exhauted from their daily routine. There are also some kind of students who don't obey their parents and don't do their summer work which make parents more aggressive.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You address both questions: you explain that long holidays allow children to rest, play, and take a break from homework, and you mention parents’ difficulties maintaining routines as a reason to favour shorter breaks. However, the response only partially develops the task. Several points about parents’ responsibility for diet and children’s strength are not clearly connected to the value of long holidays, while the case for shorter holidays is limited mainly to parental exhaustion and children not completing summer work. The claim that students use the holidays to cover their syllabus is also unclear. Develop each side with a direct explanation and a relevant example, and make your overall view clearer so the reader can see which benefits you consider most important.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The response has a recognisable sequence: it begins with the benefits of a long break, then turns to arguments for shorter holidays. Linking phrases such as “Beside this,” “However,” and “But there is also another side” signal changes in direction. Nevertheless, the progression is difficult to follow because several ideas are crowded into one paragraph and the links between them are weak. For example, the discussion moves from rest and play to parents’ diet and critical-thinking activities, then to syllabus coverage, without clearly showing how these points relate. Some transitions also repeat the same broad contrast. Use separate paragraphs for each question, group related reasons together, and make references such as “this kind of activities” more precise.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “strict routine,” “homework,” “problem solving,” and “critical thinking skills.” There are also attempts to express more specific concepts, such as children becoming “practically strong and brave.” However, word choice and collocation are often inaccurate or repetitive, which sometimes makes the intended meaning less clear. Examples include “great number of significane,” “daily headache of homework,” and “more exhauted from their daily routine.” Spelling errors such as “unpleasent,” “reponsibility,” and “junkfood” are noticeable. Build a more accurate range of natural phrases for discussing rest, learning, and family routines, and check spelling and word forms during revision.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including clauses with “which” and “because,” and the overall message is generally understandable. However, the range is limited, and errors recur in basic sentence patterns as well as in longer constructions. For example, “Holidays have great number” needs an article, while “the children’s” uses an unnecessary possessive form. In “the main reason … is not only make,” the verb pattern is incomplete; “which make parents” also has a subject–verb agreement problem. Capitalisation is inconsistent, as in “They” after a comma. Practise accurate articles, plurals, agreement, and verb patterns, then use complex clauses only when you can control their structure.
