Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0
The response identifies a relevant benefit of long holidays: students can pursue activities beyond academic study, and time away may protect them from high temperatures. It also attempts to address shorter holidays by saying students would feel pressured by a busy schedule. However, both sides are only briefly mentioned, and the argument about shorter holidays is unclear: “shorter school holidays can distract the students in heated days” does not explain why shorter breaks would be advantageous. The conclusion gives a clear preference for long holidays, but the position is not supported with developed reasons or examples. The response is also substantially below the required 250 words, so it cannot provide the explanation and support needed to address both parts fully. Develop each argument and add relevant examples.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
There is a basic overall structure: an opening statement, a paragraph about the value of long holidays, a contrasting paragraph, and a conclusion. Signposts such as “Other side” and “To conclude” show an attempt to guide the reader. However, progression within the paragraphs is limited, and the contrast between the two positions is not clearly explained. The opening does not introduce the two sides, while the second paragraph contains ideas that are difficult to connect logically. Some linking phrases are also awkward or inaccurate, which makes the relationships between points less clear. To improve, organise the response around one main idea per paragraph and use clear links such as “In contrast” to show how each point answers the question.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The response uses some vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “development,” “academic studies,” “activities,” “temperature,” and “schedule.” It also attempts phrases such as “rapid moving time” and “busy academic schedule,” showing an effort to express broader ideas. However, spelling errors are frequent, including “belives,” “ectivites,” “temprature,” and “acadamic,” and several expressions are unnatural or imprecise. For example, “upgrade themselves” is not a natural way to describe students’ personal development, and “heated days” is unclear. These choices sometimes make the intended meaning difficult to follow. Use accurate topic vocabulary and check spelling; prefer clear collocations such as “develop new skills” and “extreme summer heat.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response includes mostly short, simple statements, with a few attempts to connect ideas using “which” and “that.” This gives some basic sentence variety, but there is little control demonstrated over more complex structures. Errors in sentence formation and grammar are noticeable. For example, “for the upgrade them selves” lacks a grammatical structure, and “The get presurised from their bysy acadamic schedule” has an unclear subject and relationship between the students and the schedule. The opening fragment, “Some countries belives in longterm summer vacation,” also does not form a complete, accurate sentence. Practise complete sentences with clear subjects and verbs, and use subordinate clauses to explain causes and results. Proofreading punctuation and sentence boundaries will also improve clarity.
