Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5
The opening recognises that the essay should consider both long and shorter holidays, and the paragraph gives a relevant benefit of longer breaks: students can rest after classes, homework and exam preparation. However, the response addresses the task only partially. It does not explain any arguments in favour of shorter holidays, and the promised personal opinion is not actually stated. The example about Sunshine International School is unfinished and does not clearly support a developed point. The response is also 136 words, below the required 250, so there is too little explanation and support to cover the question adequately. To improve, discuss at least one benefit of each holiday pattern, explain the effects, and add a relevant, complete example.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is some organisation: an introductory paragraph signals the two viewpoints, followed by a paragraph about the value of long holidays. The ideas about schoolwork and the chance to refresh are broadly connected, so the reader can follow the main point. However, the response ends abruptly, with no paragraph on shorter holidays or conclusion, and therefore lacks a clear overall progression. Linking is also limited and sometimes mechanical: the introduction joins several ideas with “while” and “and,” while “For example” introduces an example that is not completed. Develop a separate paragraph for each side, use clear topic sentences, and finish with a conclusion that states your view.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The response uses some relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “academic pressure,” “examinations,” “motivated,” and “extended breaks.” These choices show an attempt to discuss the effects of holidays rather than relying entirely on basic terms. However, the range is limited by the short response, and several spelling or word-choice problems reduce accuracy, such as “secoundary,” “relex,” and “curtails academic pressure.” The phrase “spend time with their family and friends” is understandable but could be made more precise by explaining what this time enables students to do. Build a wider set of accurate expressions for rest, learning continuity and family activities, and check spelling and collocations carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writing attempts both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a sentence beginning “while these extended breaks offer several benefits” and a reason introduced by “For example.” Some basic meaning is clear, but errors are frequent and the longer structures are not consistently controlled. For instance, “holidays are paramount for learners,it is alleviate student's stress” joins clauses incorrectly and has faulty verb structure; “one compelling argument … is that provide sufficient” is missing a subject and a complement; and “students who study … these students get long holidays” creates a faulty relative-clause construction. Punctuation and spacing around commas are also inconsistent. Practise complete clause structures, subject–verb agreement and sentence boundaries before adding more complex linking.
