Student answer (Band 6.0)

In many countries during summer, primary and secondary schools close for two to three months for summer holidays. Summer holidays are very valuable for relax student's brain from study and allow the students to spend more time with their family. Most people argue that shorter school holidays have more benefits then longer summer breaks.

Longer summer holidays are mostly common in primary and secondary schools located in hotest areas of world like Pakistan and India. One of the main reason is the weather. It is hard to survive in hot environment because the young students are more sensitive. Moreover, longer Summer vacations allow children and their families to spend more time together. This result in creating strong connection of pupils with their family members. Students can go for family trips and attend family events in longer holidays. Many students also take part in sports activities during the regualr school time and longer summer breaks allow them to play full time. For instance, longer summer holidays were offered by pakistani schools every year. These vacations help students to get free from books for some times. Moreover, it allow students to spend more time with their families and to enjoy family trips and events.

Many people argue that shorter holidays are more beneficials rather than longer holidays. They believe that schools need sufficient time for teaching because of lenghty syllabus. Shorter vacations may help students to complete their syllabus timely. Futhermore, they believe that shorter holidays will maintain students' foccus on study rather than longer holidays. So, they favour shorter summer breaks which connect pupils with books. For instance, Private schools offer shorter summer breaks. Hence students in private schools finish their syllabus timely and prepared well for exams. These students do not lose concentration from books and perform better over public school students who have longer vacations.

In conclusion, Longer summer vacations facilitate students to relax their mind from study and give opportunity to spend more time with their families. Moreover, It also provide sufficient time for family trips and events. Many people place argument in favour of shorter vacations. These vacations help the students to connect with books for long time and result in completing difficult and lengthy courses timely.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both parts of the question and maintain a clear comparison: long holidays allow rest, family time and participation in sports, while shorter breaks may help students keep up with the syllabus and retain focus. The examples about hot climates and private schools are relevant, but some claims are asserted rather than explained. For instance, the link between shorter holidays and better exam performance is presented as a general fact without showing why this outcome follows or acknowledging other factors. The value of long holidays is also repeated in the Pakistan example rather than extended with a distinct point. Develop each main reason with a clearer explanation or specific illustration to make the response more fully supported.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two positions, and a conclusion that summarises them. This makes the comparison easy to follow. You also use linking expressions such as “Moreover,” “For instance,” and “In conclusion.” However, some connections feel mechanical, and ideas are repeated, particularly the points about family trips and time away from books. The reference in “This result in creating strong connection” is not fully clear, and the final paragraph largely restates earlier material rather than drawing the discussion together. Improve progression by giving each paragraph a distinct sequence of claim, explanation and example, and use pronouns and linking phrases only where their references are clear.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to discuss the issue, including “syllabus,” “concentration,” “family events” and “sports activities.” There are also attempts at more specific phrasing, such as “maintain students’ focus.” However, word choice, word forms and spelling are often inaccurate or unnatural, which limits precision: “relax student's brain,” “more beneficials,” “hotest,” “regualr” and “foccus” are examples. Some expressions are also repeated, especially “longer summer holidays” and “spend more time with their families.” Aim for accurate collocations and vary repeated phrases; proofreading spelling and checking whether a noun, adjective or verb form is needed will make your meaning more natural and precise.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple sentences and longer structures, including clauses introduced by “because,” “which” and “rather than,” so the response shows some range. Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors occur across the essay. Examples include “One of the main reason is the weather” (number agreement), “This result in creating” (verb agreement and construction), and “it allow students” (subject–verb agreement). In the conclusion, “It also provide” has the same agreement problem, while “relax their mind” has an unclear singular/plural pattern. Work on agreement, articles and plural forms, and check each sentence’s subject and verb. More consistently accurate complex sentences would strengthen control.
