Student answer (Band 6.0)

In several nations, educational institutions are closed for a extended period during summer vacations. As a result, pupils could get sufficient time which help them to involove various innovative and extra- curriculum activities.

In gereral, students studying in schools become bored with their academic study, pressure of tutorials and tests. Therefore, they need relaxation mentally and physically. During school holidays periods, they can achieve practical knowledge and experience which can help them to build a brilliant career in future. For instance, a primary school student can learn swimming or playing music instrument during holidays. Furthermore, they can engage them to part time jobs or join in charity clubs which can help them to earn money for supporting family or own's expense. In present, in many countries, students are doing temporary works and earning a handsome amount of money.

On other hand, many people emphasize on shorter school vacations in stead of longer holidays due to many logical reasons. One of main reason is that if students are kept for long period from the school, then they loose their full concentration and dedication which may cause serious impacts on their mind. Instead of focusing to study, they may concentrate them to earn money which can destroy their future dream and goal. In many developing contries, it is found that a large segment of students are not able to complete their course. For this reason, policy makers should consider that the length of holidays considering socio economic factors as well as it's eminent effects.

Last but not least, holidays during summer for students are significant for them but it should not be too long which can divert their mind from study. I think that it should not cross not more than one month.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both parts of the question and give a clear view that summer holidays are valuable but should not exceed about a month. The benefits are supported with relevant examples, such as learning to swim or play an instrument, and taking temporary work. You also explain a case for shorter breaks by arguing that long absences may weaken students’ concentration. However, the value of long holidays is developed more fully than the arguments for shorter ones; the claim that students may focus on earning money and that this can harm their goals needs clearer explanation. The point about course completion in developing countries is also broad and not clearly linked to holiday length. Develop this side with a specific, well-explained consequence or example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph on the benefits of long holidays, a paragraph presenting the case for shorter breaks, and a concluding opinion. The progression is generally easy to follow, and signposts such as “Furthermore,” “On other hand,” and “Last but not least” help identify the stages of the argument. This organisation is effective, though some linking is mechanical and a few connections between claims are not fully clear. For example, the move from students losing concentration to their earning money, and then to course completion in developing countries, needs more explicit explanation. Use referencing and transitions more naturally, and make each paragraph’s supporting points build clearly toward its main idea.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “practical knowledge,” “temporary works,” “dedication,” and “socio economic factors,” which helps communicate the main ideas. There are also attempts at less common expressions, but several word choices, collocations, and spelling errors reduce precision: “involove,” “extra- curriculum,” “emphasize on,” and “handsome amount” are not natural or accurate in context. Some phrases, such as “serious impacts on their mind,” are also imprecise. These errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the overall argument, but they make the language less controlled. Focus on accurate collocations and check spelling and word forms, especially when using more formal vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including conditional structures such as “if students are kept for long period from the school, then…” and relative clauses such as “which can help them to earn money.” This gives the response some structural variety, and the main meaning is generally understandable. However, some errors in articles, agreement, verb forms, and sentence construction remain. For example, “a extended period” needs an article adjustment, “one of main reason” has agreement and article problems, and “students studying in schools become bored” is awkwardly constructed. The final sentence, “it should not cross not more than one month,” is also grammatically unclear. Review article use and agreement, and simplify sentences when a complex structure becomes difficult to control.
