Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is becoming increasingly common in many countries that elimentary and higher educationals institutes remained close for couple of months and more in summer vacations. Long school holidays can be valueable for the students as they can learn different types of skills, while arguments like losing interest and bad company are in the favour of less holidays.

To begin with, long term holidays can be advantageous for many students as they got enough time to complete their summer vacation homework. Besides, they can learn different type of skills in this period of time which will help in them their future. Students also get a chance to take a break from their busy routine of school life and it is very beneficial for their mental state. For instance, students who are interested in computer skills can join different computer programs which will help them in their future, while, the students who are on the primary level, can join tuition and can cover their course earlier than other students.

On the other hand, it also has many detremental effects including losing interest in studies. Pupils mostly spent their time in different activities like playing games and having fun rather than studying for their exams can ruin the interest of the students. They do not want to go to schools after two or three months of vacations and this can have a very bad effect on thier student life. Furthermore, students start taking part in bad companies like going to pubs and gumbling, which are very dangerous for their future. These arguments lead to short term vacations so students cannot detached from their schools and studies.

To conclude, summer vavations are very important for students as longer vacations help students to learn skills for students while losing interest in studies are in the favour of shorter holidays.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both questions and maintain a relevant overall position: long holidays allow students to develop skills and rest, while shorter breaks may help them retain interest in study. The examples of computer courses and extra tuition make the benefits more concrete. However, some points are asserted rather than explained. For instance, the claim that pupils may join “bad companies” or go to pubs and gamble is not clearly connected to why shorter holidays would prevent this, and the argument about losing interest could be developed with a clearer explanation of how a shorter break supports learning. Expand and balance these ideas so each side is supported with specific, convincing reasoning.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, one paragraph for the benefits of long holidays, one for shorter holidays, and a conclusion. Signposts such as “To begin with,” “On the other hand,” and “To conclude” make the main stages easy to follow. This meets the expected level of coherent organisation, and the ideas generally progress within each paragraph. Some links are less smooth or precise, however. The sentence beginning “Pupils mostly spent their time…” is difficult to connect to the preceding point, and “These arguments lead to short term vacations” does not clearly show how the examples support that conclusion. Use clearer cause-and-effect links and refer to ideas more precisely to make cohesion less mechanical.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some topic-related vocabulary, including “mental state,” “detrimental effects,” “computer skills,” and “losing interest,” which helps communicate the main ideas. However, the range is limited and several word-choice, collocation, and spelling errors make the expression noticeably awkward. Examples include “elimentary,” “higher educationals institutes,” “bad companies,” and “gumbling”; these either are inaccurate or do not express the intended meaning naturally. Repetition of “students,” “holidays,” and “help” also limits flexibility. Build a more reliable range of phrases for education and leisure, and check spelling and collocations so that your meaning is consistently clear and natural.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “as,” “while,” and “which,” and the overall meaning is usually understandable. Some grammatical errors remain, particularly in verb forms, agreement, and sentence construction. For example, “institutes remained close” uses an unsuitable tense and form, while “they got enough time” and “students mostly spent their time” do not maintain the appropriate present-tense pattern. In “which will help in them their future,” the clause structure is faulty, and “students cannot detached” lacks the correct verb form. Review tense consistency, subject–verb agreement, and how clauses are joined; more accurate control of these patterns would make your complex sentences clearer.
