Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nations around the globe suspend schools for around two months, calling them summer holidays. These holidays come up with positive and negative effects which are discussed in this essay with detail.

I agree to this point somehow, that school holidays must be shorter and this aspect of thinking is relitively common amoung a large group of people, mostly parents. These two month holidays does not just break the flow of on going studies but also introduces lazyness, making it difficult for students to focus when school re-open. When I was in school, I too found it hard to get back to studies after these long summerr holidays.

Moreover, another draw-back of these holidays that I have noticed, students mostely spend their time on phones and laptops during these free days which results in harmfull effects on their health and eyesight too. My cousin usually spent most of his time playing online games resulting in weak eyesight at the start of his school.

Summer holidays do come with a positive side, the amout of excesive heat in those days, students usually faint or get strokes. These holidays provide important cover for students to stay away from heat. I still remember when i was 10 I met a heat stroke which caused a bed rest for about 2 months. Plus, holidays provide free evenings for students so they can play or get involve in any of the physical activity which is hard to get in during school days.

What I think, education sector should organize skill leaning classes in these days providing infomation to students so, they dont get slowed down with in these days

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both questions and give a clear overall view that shorter holidays have advantages, while also recognising the value of a long summer break. The points about losing study momentum, screen use, extreme heat and opportunities for physical activity are relevant, and the personal examples make the response engaging. However, the arguments are not developed evenly: the case for shorter holidays is explained through study habits and screen use, while the value of long holidays is mainly linked to heat and free time. Explain more fully how shorter breaks could improve learning or family routines, and clarify how skill classes would help. This would make the response more complete and better supported.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, discussion of drawbacks, benefits of summer holidays, and a concluding recommendation. Paragraphing helps distinguish the main points, and transitions such as “Moreover” and “Plus” show how ideas relate. However, the progression is sometimes mechanical, and the opening promises a discussion of positive and negative effects without clearly mapping the two sides. The final sentence introduces skill classes abruptly and does not fully connect them to the earlier arguments. Some references are also unclear, such as “these days” in the conclusion. Use clearer topic sentences and link each example explicitly to the point it supports, then make the conclusion summarise both sides.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of vocabulary, including “break the flow,” “draw-back,” “physical activity” and “heat stroke,” which helps communicate the main ideas. There are also attempts at more specific language, such as “excessive heat” and “skill learning classes.” However, spelling and word-choice errors are noticeable and sometimes make the phrasing less natural: “relitively,” “amoung,” “lazyness,” “harmfull” and “infomation” are examples. Some collocations are awkward, including “holidays come up with positive and negative effects” and “provide important cover.” Aim for accurate spelling and more natural combinations, such as “have positive and negative effects” and “offer protection from the heat.” This would make your vocabulary more precise and fluent.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including the contrast introduced by “but also” and the relative clause in “which is hard to get in during school days.” Most of the meaning remains understandable, but some grammatical errors affect accuracy. For example, “These two month holidays does not” has a plural subject with a singular verb, and “students mostely spend their time” needs a clearer sentence structure after the preceding clause. There are also issues with articles and verb forms in “students usually faint” and “get involve.” Review subject–verb agreement, consistent tense, and sentence boundaries, especially when joining several ideas. More controlled complex sentences would help you express the relationships between causes and effects clearly.
