Student answer (Band 6.0)
It is debated, in many countries, have long summer holidays of two months or more. This essay will discuss the value of long holidays and also give arguments for making them shorter.
On the one hand, there are numerous benefits of long holidays.Firstly, in long vacation students feel relax and comfortable. The pressure of studies and exams are reduced ,so they are stressfree. They can spend more time with their family and loved ones ,and recover mentally. In long vacations they also plane to go out of city to spend their vactions and enjoy a long holidays with their families. For instance, in Pakistan in June, July weather is hot it gives them a break of studying in hot classrooms.Secondly, long holidays provide oppurtunity to learn new skills like English language, playing cricket, web development or cooking.Thirdly, mostly students do internship, which is also essential with theoretical knowledge.
However, there are stronger aguments in favour of shorter school vacation .The main issue is learning loss.Students can forget their previous lesson after a long holiday.Teachers do more struggle with students to revise their previous lesson, and then waste many weeks. Moreover, parents who do job it is difficult for them to stay at home with their children, then they send their children to summer camps which is expensive. Furthermore, long holidays can increase inequality, rich people affords trips but poor people students stay at home which widens the learning gap.
To conclude, while long holidays get students relaxed and stressed free environment, shorter holidays can prevent learning loss. From my perspective, balanched approached is necessary with shorter breaks in summer holidays.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address both questions and maintain a clear overall position: long holidays offer rest and opportunities, while shorter breaks can reduce learning loss and ease childcare pressures. Relevant examples, such as the hot summer classrooms in Pakistan and students learning skills or doing internships, help support your points. This meets the task well, though some ideas are more fully explained than others. The benefits of rest and family time are developed, but the skills and internship points are listed with little explanation of their value. The argument about inequality is relevant but would be stronger with a specific explanation of how shorter holidays could reduce the learning gap. Clarifying your preferred balance would also make the conclusion more decisive.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two sides, and a conclusion. The progression from benefits to arguments for shorter holidays is easy to follow, and signposts such as “On the one hand,” “However,” and “To conclude” help orient the reader. This is a coherent arrangement, although some linking is mechanical and the flow within paragraphs is occasionally weakened by long strings of points. For example, the benefits paragraph moves from relaxation to family time, travel, skills, and internships without always showing how each point connects. Use clearer referencing and transitions between related ideas, and develop fewer points more fully, to make cohesion more flexible and less list-like.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a relevant range of vocabulary, including “learning loss,” “inequality,” “summer camps,” and “theoretical knowledge,” which allows you to discuss both sides of the topic. However, noticeable spelling, word-form, and collocation errors sometimes make the expression less natural, as in “stressfree,” “plane to go out of city,” “oppurtunity,” and “stronger aguments.” Some phrases are also imprecise, such as “stressed free environment” and “do more struggle.” These errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your main ideas, but they limit precision and fluency. Check spelling carefully and learn common word partnerships, such as “feel relaxed,” “make an effort,” and “take an internship,” rather than translating phrases directly.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a contrastive opening and clauses with “so,” “which,” and “while.” The main ideas are generally understandable, but some errors in sentence structure, agreement, articles, and punctuation remain. For example, “It is debated, in many countries, have long summer holidays” lacks a clear grammatical structure, while “The pressure of studies and exams are reduced” has a subject–verb agreement problem. Other examples include “parents who do job it is difficult for them” and “shorter holidays get students relaxed.” Commas and spaces are also inconsistently handled. Practise building accurate sentences around a clear subject and verb, and check agreement and articles before adding complex clauses.
