Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is observed that in many countries the schools for primary and the secondary section give a vacation of two or more months to their students. I feel a minimum break of a month or two is necessary for any growing kid to have during their schooling years because they can have fun during this tenure and make good childhood memories with their friends and family.

Long holidays given to the students play a vital role in the development of their hobbies. During normal school days going to the school then classes and giving endless exams is the cycle that continues one is done with the schooling. To break this cycle and find a skill or hobby that interests the kids a summer break is needed. They can join art, sport or even singing clases if they show keen interest in it.

Vacations come with travel plans and if the kids are travelling with their families, visiting new places it creates a sense of curiosity within them when they explore and start questioning why things work in a certain way. Thus, they are ought to learn new things from their experiences.

While, there are some arguments which support that school holidays should be shorter because there are some kids who just want to utilise their free-time to do notorius tasks, they don't like studying and are never worried about their future. For such kids, it is quite important that we encourage them to come to schools, provide them with the correct set of guidance and try giving them a vision to suceed in life. As empty vessles make the loudest noises, we need to ensure that these students are having topics to constantly ponder about and keep learning. Thus if keep them for schools by giving shorter holidays we can bring a change in their mindset.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both questions and maintain a clear view that longer breaks benefit children, while shorter holidays may help students who need more structure. The discussion of hobbies and family travel is relevant, and the examples of art, sport and singing make the first benefit concrete. However, the value of holidays is developed more fully than the case for shorter breaks. The claim that some children use free time for “notorious tasks” is unclear, and the argument would be stronger if you explained how shorter breaks support learning—for example, by reducing loss of academic progress or maintaining routines. Develop this second side with a clearer reason and a specific example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a coherent overall arrangement: an introduction, two paragraphs on the benefits of long holidays, and a final paragraph presenting the case for shorter breaks. Ideas generally progress in a sensible order, and linking expressions such as “Thus” and “While” help signal relationships. This meets the lower-band expectations securely, with some evidence of more flexible organisation. To make the progression clearer and more controlled, avoid beginning the final paragraph with “While” when it is not joined to a contrasting main clause, and use transitions that explicitly connect the two sides of the discussion. Some references are also difficult to follow, particularly “they” in the travel paragraph and “these students” after the discussion of children’s behaviour.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “development of their hobbies,” “sense of curiosity,” “guidance” and “mindset.” These choices help communicate the main ideas, and some less common expressions show an attempt to vary your language. However, several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or unclear: “notorious tasks” does not convey the intended meaning, “give a vacation” is less natural than “provide a break,” and “topics to constantly ponder about” is awkward in this context. There are also spelling errors such as “clases,” “suceed” and “vessles.” Aim for precise, natural collocations and proofread spelling so that your vocabulary choices support rather than distract from your argument.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including clauses with “because,” “when” and “if,” and the main message remains understandable. Some sentence forms are controlled, such as “They can join art, sport or even singing classes if they show keen interest in it.” However, some errors in sentence structure, agreement and punctuation remain. For example, “During normal school days going to the school then classes and giving endless exams is the cycle that continues one is done” is difficult to parse and needs restructuring. “Thus if keep them for schools” is missing a subject and has an incomplete verb pattern; “they are ought to learn” is also grammatically incorrect. Use clearer clause boundaries and check articles, verb forms and punctuation in longer sentences.
