Student answer (Band 6.0)

In many educational instituitions, there are summer vacations for students for upto 2 to 3 months depending upon the weather there. They are usually for classes ranging from kindergarten to high school students. These holidays have many benefits as well as have down side to it. We will discuss some here.

So first of all , the reason for giving them these holidays is due to extreme weather conditions like temperature reaches upto 50 degree celsius or more. So the students can't afford to physcically go to school on a daily basis in conditions like this. But the institutions make sure that they are connected with learining activities---in the form of homeworks an assignments--which keep them engage and asociated with studies. The bright side of this is that children can learn comfortable and in relaxed environment and also it produce the sense of responsibility in them as they have to finish their homework in time without teachers standing at their head to make sure they complete it. Another advantage of vacations like these is that they get to enjoy many things like playing with siblings, visiting their cousins and creating childhood memories with them. As they march into adult life, these kind of activities are reduced due to lack of time as everyone gets busy in making career.

However, there is a bad effect as well if not properly handled. Like some students get extremely lazy and use most of time playing and consuming internet like social media and stuff like that. Also as these holidays are for longer time, so there is a possibility that he/she ewill lose interest in going to school as the momentum breaks which was created througout the year. So the duration for summer vacations should be just for a month, when the conditions are extreme, so that they remain deciplined and keen to learn

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both parts of the question: you explain the value of long holidays through relief from extreme heat, independent homework, and time with family, then argue that shorter breaks may help students avoid losing motivation. Your position is clear in the final recommendation for a one-month holiday. The discussion is relevant, but the two sides are not developed equally: the case for long holidays has several examples, while the argument for shorter holidays mainly focuses on laziness and disrupted momentum. The opening also suggests weather is the main reason for summer breaks without considering other possible benefits or contexts. To strengthen the response, explain the shorter-holiday case further—for example, how shorter breaks could support learning continuity—and clarify how the proposed duration would balance rest with study.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph on the benefits of long holidays, and a contrasting paragraph that leads to a recommendation. Ideas generally progress in a sensible order, and linking expressions such as “However” help signal the shift in viewpoint. At times, though, cohesion feels mechanical or unclear. “So first of all” and “We will discuss some here” are formulaic, while “Like some students…” does not connect smoothly to the preceding sentence. The long benefits paragraph also combines weather, homework, responsibility, and family time without clear internal grouping. Use topic sentences to identify each paragraph’s main point, and connect examples explicitly to that point. Clearer references would also help readers follow who “they” and “them” refer to.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use an adequate range of vocabulary to discuss the topic, including “extreme weather conditions,” “sense of responsibility,” “momentum,” and “childhood memories.” These choices help communicate the main ideas, and some phrases show an attempt to be specific. However, spelling errors and imprecise or informal wording reduce accuracy and control: examples include “instituitions,” “physcically,” “learining,” “asociated,” and “deciplined.” Phrases such as “consuming internet” and “standing at their head” are not natural collocations, while “bad effect” and “stuff like that” are vague or informal for an academic essay. Proofread spelling and choose more precise expressions, such as “excessive social-media use” or “negative consequences.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex structures, including reason clauses (“as they have to finish their homework…”) and a conditional opening (“if not properly handled”). Most of the meaning remains understandable, but some grammatical errors and punctuation problems are noticeable. For example, “These holidays have many benefits as well as have down side to it” has faulty parallel structure and agreement; “it also produce” should agree with its subject; and “there is a possibility that he/she ewill lose interest” contains an incorrect verb form. The sentence beginning “Also as these holidays are for longer time, so…” uses an awkward clause structure, and the final sentence is not clearly punctuated. Practise accurate agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries, while retaining your attempts at complex sentences.
