Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays, many education institutions assign holidays for the betterment of their students. In some countries, during summer holidays primary and secondary schools are being closed for two or more months. The value of long school holidays is worthwhile because for the diligent students. It's a good opportunity for them to work on their academic goals, but the supporters of shorter school holidays argue that there should be limited holidays because students get reckless during long-term holidays.

On the one hand, some students believe that long school holidays are blessing for them because they have plenty of time to focus on their studies. Some learners prepare themselves for the upcoming exams. Therefore, they find long holidays more advantageous. For example, studies show that the education system get better results from industrious students by providing long holidays. The reason behind it is that they can properly concentrate on their studies and achieve higher grades.

On the other hand, some parents claim that the school holidays should be shorter because those students who are less interested in studies get reckless and waste most ot their time in unusual activities like playing games, and watching movies. Hence, on result day they bring disappointment for their parents and feel shame for themselves. For instance, in UK the parents restart the classes of their children who secure bad grades in exams. According to them, holidays in primary and secondary schools ought to minimum.

In conclsuion, authorities should avoid the concept of long- term holidays for the better intellectual and academic growth of kids. Although, long holidays are also beneficial for those who have the urge to attain something superlative in life. For week students, the short-term holidays are merely the wastage of time.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You address both questions and present a clear overall view: long holidays can help diligent students study, while shorter breaks may benefit students who are less focused. The examples about exam preparation and parents restarting classes are relevant, but the discussion is only partly developed. The claim that holidays improve results is broad, and the UK example is not explained enough to show how it supports shorter holidays. The conclusion also shifts towards recommending shorter holidays without fully weighing the value of long breaks. To strengthen the response, explain more specifically how extended holidays benefit students beyond exam preparation, and develop the case for shorter breaks with a clear reason, such as maintaining learning routines or reducing loss of progress.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, two contrasting body paragraphs signposted by “On the one hand” and “On the other hand,” and a conclusion. This makes the main progression easy to follow. You also use linking expressions such as “Therefore,” “Hence,” and “For example” to show relationships between ideas. However, some connections are mechanical, and the reasoning within paragraphs is not always smoothly linked: the move from students wasting time to parents restarting classes needs clearer explanation. The conclusion introduces a firm recommendation that is not fully established in the body. Use more precise referencing and make each example explicitly support the paragraph’s main point.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “academic goals,” “upcoming exams,” “industrious,” and “intellectual and academic growth.” These choices show an attempt to express ideas beyond basic everyday language. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, which sometimes makes the meaning less clear. For example, “long school holidays are blessing” and “holidays ought to minimum” do not express the intended ideas naturally; “ot,” “conclsuion,” and “week students” also contain spelling errors. Some expressions, such as “attain something superlative,” sound overly formal without adding precision. Aim for accurate, natural phrases and check spelling carefully, especially in the conclusion.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “because,” “who,” and “although.” This gives the response some structural variety, and the main ideas are generally understandable. However, complex sentences are not consistently controlled, and errors occur in agreement, articles, verb forms, and sentence construction. For example, “the education system get better results” has a subject–verb agreement problem, while “long school holidays are blessing” needs an article. The opening sentence of the conclusion, “Although, long holidays are also beneficial…,” is not correctly punctuated as a subordinate clause. Practise checking each sentence for a complete main clause, correct agreement, and appropriate articles before adding more complex structures.
