Student answer (Band 6.0)
In numerous countries around the world, there has been a policy for quite a long time of providing summer holidays to students for two months or more. These summer holidays have been quite succesful in increasing the happiness index among the students in during their school life.
The most signifcant aspect of giving such long breaks is mainly to have more time to relax and refresh yourself to counter the pressure students are frequently engaged in for about 10 months from studies. Moreover, its not only about relaxing but also having ample of time to engage in some extracurriculum activities like sports or some charity volunteering. In my school time during the summer holidays I used to go to multiple charity organizations to do be a helpful citizen to my society.Apart from that, its a known factor that there are some students in every classroom who are weak in some basics of a subject so its the best healthy time for them to work on their weaknesses during the summer holidays and come back in the next session of school more polished and intelligent.
However in the recent years since the birth of mobile phones and computers, students tend to become more lazy and frequently engaged in playing games or stuff which has resulted in greater magnitude of procastination found in them. This procastination ultimatley later on effects their studies during school and makes them loose good grades in multiple subjects.
Nevertheless I still believe that summer holidays should be prolonged for students to engage in a handful of activities to groom themselves and to counter the technology use issue, parents must make sure their children use them for the right reason which would actually give them something valuable to learn.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You address both questions and maintain a clear preference for longer holidays, supported by relevant reasons: rest, extracurricular activities, volunteering and time to strengthen weak subject knowledge. The personal example about visiting charity organisations helps make one point concrete. However, the value of long holidays receives much more attention than the arguments for shorter holidays. The paragraph beginning “However” mainly describes students’ technology use and procrastination; it does not clearly explain how shorter holidays would address these problems or set out other benefits of a shorter break. Some ideas, such as the claim that holidays increase students’ happiness, are also asserted rather than explained. Develop both sides more evenly and make the link between each reason and the question explicit.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, reasons supporting long holidays, a contrasting point, and a concluding position. Linking expressions such as “Moreover,” “Apart from that,” “However” and “Nevertheless” help signal relationships between ideas. The progression is generally understandable, but the contrast is not fully developed: the technology paragraph identifies a problem without clearly connecting it to the case for shorter holidays. Some sentences also carry several ideas at once, making the progression harder to follow, particularly the long sentence about students who are weak in subject basics. Use clearer paragraph focus and divide complex points into shorter, logically connected sentences. More precise referencing would also help readers follow what “them” refers to in the conclusion.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “extracurricular activities,” “charity organizations,” “procrastination” and “pressure.” These choices allow you to discuss several relevant aspects of school holidays, and the meaning is generally clear. There are, however, some inaccurate or unnatural word choices and collocations, such as “happiness index among the students,” “ample of time,” “more polished and intelligent,” and “greater magnitude of procrastination.” Spelling errors, including “succesful,” “signifcant,” “procastination” and “ultimatley,” also reduce accuracy. Aim for natural academic phrasing and check spelling carefully; precise, familiar expressions are more effective than ambitious wording used inaccurately.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “since” and “who,” and most of your meaning can be followed. However, some grammatical errors and punctuation problems remain. For example, “students in during their school life” has an incorrect preposition, while “I used to go … to do be a helpful citizen” contains a faulty verb construction. In “makes them loose good grades,” the verb form is incorrect, and the sentence beginning “However in the recent years” needs more accurate article and punctuation use. Several sentences are long and combine multiple clauses, which makes these errors more noticeable. Practise checking verb patterns, articles, prepositions and sentence boundaries, while retaining your attempts at complex structures.
