Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is seen that many countries provide facilities of long vacation likely two months or more during the summer season. Long holidays give opportunities to get proper time for relaxing to restart their lessons again. Despites benefits of long holidays for children, i agree that shorter holidays are best for them.

Many primary and secondary schools close for a long time beacuse of the well-being of students, teachers and parents, increasing their capabilities, and enjoying their childhood. Firstly, the long monotonous academic study with a hectic schedule makes them bored, depressed and less attentive. For instance, they don't get proper time to sleep, proper nutrition and rest. So. their academic perfomance and bahavioural performance declines eventually and they become sick soon. Secondly, long vaction helps to regain energy and increase their other skill such as cooking. they give their time on hobbies and learn somthing new. Lastly, long holidays provide an important moment to spend quality time. Many parents go to new place to spend their vacation with their children to make memorable childhood.

On the other hand, Long holidays distract students from study, make them lazy and lead to bad addiction. Shorter holidays help students to regain their energy swiftly rather than long vacation. Furthermore, long time makes the lazy by thinking that there is enough time to do something. For that, they waste their time by procrastination. Moreover, many students get addicted with social media scrolling, gaming on computers and drugs that destroy their study, family even life. For example. parents are busy nowadays. so they don't have enough time for their children and children often feel lonely. So, they try to find alternative ways to get ride of loneliness in their free time.

In conclusion, Long holidays in primary and secondary school has many benefits for teacher and students, respectively. but i think shorter vaction helps them best.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both questions and state a clear preference for shorter holidays: “I agree that shorter holidays are best for them.” The first main paragraph explains the value of longer breaks through rest, hobbies, skill development and family time, while the next gives reasons for shorter breaks, including loss of study habits and excessive screen use. These are relevant points, but some are not fully explained. For example, the claim that long holidays lead to “bad addiction” is broad, and the example about children feeling lonely does not clearly show why shorter holidays would solve this. Develop each point with a clearer cause-and-effect explanation or a specific example, and make the conclusion’s position more precise.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two sides, and a conclusion. Sequencing words such as “Firstly,” “Secondly,” “Lastly,” and “On the other hand” help readers follow the argument. However, some connections are mechanical or unclear. The opening of the first body paragraph lists several reasons—“well-being,” “increasing their capabilities,” and “enjoying their childhood”—without showing how they organise the paragraph’s points. In the shorter-holiday paragraph, “For that” does not clearly connect the preceding idea to procrastination, and the final example shifts to loneliness without a clear link to the argument. Use topic sentences that preview each paragraph and make the relationship between examples and claims explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of vocabulary, including “monotonous academic study,” “regain energy,” “quality time,” and “procrastination,” which helps express the main ideas. There are also attempts at more specific language, such as “behavioural performance” and “alternative ways,” but some choices are inaccurate or unnatural and occasionally make the meaning less clear. Examples include “provide facilities of long vacation,” “give their time on hobbies,” and “get ride of loneliness.” Spelling errors such as “beacuse,” “perfomance,” and “somthing” also reduce accuracy. Aim for natural collocations and check spelling carefully; precise, familiar phrasing is more effective than using a word that does not fit its context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including cause-and-effect structures such as “So, their academic performance… declines” and a relative clause in “Many parents go to new place… to make memorable childhood.” Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. These include subject–verb agreement (“Long holidays… has”), article and plural use (“a new place,” “other skill”), and sentence boundaries or punctuation (“So. their…” and “For example. parents…”). Capitalisation is also inconsistent, as in “i” and “Long holidays” after a comma. Review agreement, articles and sentence punctuation, then proofread each sentence to ensure its clauses are joined correctly.
