Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the charts’ subject and include some relevant features, such as adults making up about half of members and fiction being a major loan category. However, several details are inaccurate or unclear: “There are 22% members of children and young adults” appears to combine the children’s 22% with the young adults’ 15%, while children’s DVDs—not fiction—are the smallest category. The loan trend is also oversimplified: loans rise overall from about 15,700 to 21,700, but fluctuate, rather than showing a steady increase. The response gives little precise comparison across the three visuals, and the final sentence does not report data. Select the main patterns accurately and support them with key figures.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a basic sequence: an introduction, comments on the charts, and a concluding sentence. This gives the reader some sense of organisation, but the progression is not clear because information from the age chart, loan table and trend chart is mixed together. For example, “Most used type of loans…” is followed by a general trend statement, then the table and age chart are mentioned again. The repeated references to “the chart,” “the table” and “all of this” do not clarify how the points relate. Use separate paragraphs for the overview and the detailed comparisons, and group each chart’s information logically. Linking phrases should show meaningful comparisons rather than simply introduce another statement.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “members,” “category,” “trend” and “loans,” so the topic is generally recognisable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, which sometimes makes the meaning difficult to follow. “Most used type of loans” is not a natural way to describe the largest categories, and “focus of people” does not clearly explain what the figures show. There are also spelling errors such as “inreases,” “demostrates,” “signifcantly” and “Littl.” Aim for precise chart language, such as “accounted for,” “the largest share,” and “fluctuated,” and check spelling carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
Most sentences use simple structures, and attempts to combine ideas do not consistently produce accurate grammar. Subject–verb agreement is a recurring issue: “The charts summarizes” and “The chart and the table shows” should use plural verbs, while “Total number of loans are” needs a singular verb with “number.” Other problems include the unnatural construction “There are 22% members” and “There are increase,” as well as “adults and children plays.” These errors make some relationships between the figures unclear. Practise accurate sentence patterns for describing proportions and trends, such as “Adults accounted for 51% of members” and “Loans increased from … to …,” then vary these with correctly formed comparisons.
