Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

You identify the topic and attempt an overview, noting that adults form the largest membership group and that loans generally rise over time. However, the response addresses the task only minimally: it gives no supporting figures and omits most key information, including the loan-category breakdown and the changes across individual years. Some details are inaccurate: the largest membership group is adults aged 18–64, not 19–64, and the smallest is adults aged 65 and over (12%), not young adults (15%). The statement that loans to adults and children are the biggest is also imprecise, since adult fiction and children’s fiction each account for 38%. The response is 85 words below the required minimum. Report the main figures and comparisons in a complete summary.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a basic overall shape: an opening identifies the charts, followed by a sentence beginning “Overall” that attempts to summarise the main patterns. This gives the reader a simple route through the limited information. However, there is no clear progression beyond this brief overview, and the three visuals are not discussed in an organised way. The long overview sentence joins several separate comparisons with “and” and “while,” making the relationships between points less clear. Develop separate paragraphs for the overview and the key details, and use clear links to move between membership, loan categories and the trend over time. This would make the organisation more complete and easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant task vocabulary, including “library users,” “members,” “loans,” “percentage” and “increasing,” so the topic is generally recognisable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or spellings reduce precision: “amount of members” is not a natural way to describe people, and “loans given” does not clearly express the share of loans in each category. There are also noticeable spelling errors, such as “Chalonts,” “porportion” and “memebers.” Use accurate terms such as “proportion of members,” “share of loans” and “loan total,” and check spelling carefully. More precise vocabulary would help distinguish membership figures from borrowing categories.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt a complex sentence to combine several overview points, using “while” to contrast them, and the main message can still be understood. However, the response relies on a narrow range of sentence structures, and errors in agreement and sentence boundaries are frequent. For example, “the highest porportion … are adults” mismatches a singular subject with a plural verb, while “the amount of loans is slightly increasing” uses an awkward singular construction for the changing totals. The opening also lacks appropriate spacing after commas, and the overview sentence is difficult to control because it contains several ideas joined together. Practise writing shorter, accurate sentences first, then combine related comparisons with correct agreement and punctuation.
