Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the task achievement score. While you have identified the main features of the charts, the analysis is quite superficial. You have listed data points rather than synthesising the information or making meaningful comparisons between the categories. For instance, you mention the age groups and loan types but do not highlight the trends or the relationship between the data sets effectively. To improve, ensure you provide a clear overview of the main trends and extend your analysis by comparing the figures rather than just reporting them sequentially.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into three short paragraphs, which is a logical approach. However, the use of cohesive devices is limited and somewhat mechanical (e.g., 'in addition', 'next', 'going below'). The flow between sentences is occasionally disjointed, making the text feel like a list of observations rather than a cohesive report. The referencing is sometimes unclear, such as the abrupt transition to the final bar chart. To improve, use a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that guides the reader through the data.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety expected at higher bands. You rely on basic verbs like 'shows' and 'leading' repeatedly. There are also some awkward phrasings, such as 'with lowest choice of children's DVD' and 'with sli9', which appears to be a typo. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more sophisticated vocabulary related to data description, such as 'accounted for', 'represented', 'fluctuated', or 'the most significant proportion'. Expanding your range of synonyms will help make your writing more engaging and precise.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures, but there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation that occasionally impede clarity. For example, 'A town known as Little Chalfont, shows...' contains an unnecessary comma, and 'the 2016 was leading here' is grammatically incorrect. There are also issues with article usage and sentence fragments. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and ensure that your sentences are complete. Practising the use of complex sentences, such as relative clauses or participial phrases, will help you demonstrate a wider grammatical range.
